Thorgal Universe Comes to Life in New Tabletop Roleplaying Game: Thorgal: The Roleplaying Game
It’s a big year for Thorgal fans with the new board game for Portal Games having successfully finished its crowdfunding campaign, and now a new tabletop roleplaying game set in the world of Thorgal is on the horizon. The game, Thorgal: The Roleplaying Game, is a unique combination of fantasy and science-fiction genres, set in the challenging world of the Vikings. The game creators, Artur Szymała, Łukasz Orbitowski, and Dawid Wolski, have successfully translated the characteristic features of the novels into the roleplaying game, making it easy to learn and play.
Players take on the roles of People of the Stars, the descendants of the ancient Atlanteans who came to Earth from a distant planet, wielding supernatural powers capable of performing truly astonishing feats. They struggle to build a home and keep together, shaping their own stories as they wish. Building a community is vital to stand united against all odds, including gods’ whims, intrigues of envious jarls, or all sorts of hard-to-explain phenomena. The game mechanics are original, d20-based, and include resources that give players full control over the game.
The game will be funded via Gamefound crowdfunding platform in June 2023, with a planned release date in Q1 2024. The game will be available in Polish, English, and French, ensuring that Thorgal fans worldwide can join in the fun. The core rulebook includes the rules, setting description, and bestiary, giving players everything they need to start playing.
Thorgal: The Roleplaying Game is the first roleplaying game set in the universe of Thorgal graphic novels, providing a completely unique experience. The game confronts players with the harsh, dangerous world of the Vikings, but many of the characters appearing in the stories do not come from the same world. The mix of fantasy, science-fiction, and Viking themes makes for breathtaking stories.
The beautiful artwork by Grzegorz Rosiński, the illustrator of the Thorgal comics, provides the perfect basis for the game’s graphic design, making it all the easier to visualize the reality players will be confronted with—the cold but breathtaking landscapes of Northland.
The game creators, Dark Rabbit, are no strangers to the world of tabletop roleplaying games. They successfully ran campaigns for MidGuard: The Roleplaying Game and Heroes vs Horrors, and their experience and network of contacts make it easier to fulfill future projects. Dark Rabbit’s aim is to create original titles, and they are always up for a challenge, using their creativity in the best way possible.
Thorgal fans and tabletop roleplaying game enthusiasts alike will be eager to get their hands on Thorgal: The Roleplaying Game. It promises to be an exciting and unique addition to the Thorgal universe, offering players a chance to shape their own stories and create their own settlements in the harsh world of the Vikings.
Thorgal: The Roleplaying Game is currently being previewed on Gamefound.
