Free League Publishing Announces Release Date for The Electric State Roleplaying Game
Free League Publishing has set the release of The Electric State Roleplaying Game for October 1. This tabletop game, inspired by Simon Stålenhag’s narrative art book of the same name, will be available through the Free League webshop, in stores, and on DrivethruRPG.
The game transports players to an alternative version of 1997, envisioning a society nearing apocalypse due to advancements in neuronic technology. It features a journey through a dystopian America, depicted through the art of Simon Stålenhag, including pieces from The Electric State art book that have not been previously published.
The gameplay, developed by Nils Hintze of Tales From the Loop and Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying fame, is based on the Year Zero Engine. This engine is also used in other well-known games such as the ALIEN RPG and Blade Runner RPG, and has been specifically adapted to fit the thematic elements of The Electric State.
Included in the game is a standalone book that provides all the tools needed to create and play through short to mid-length campaigns set in this collapsing society. The narrative challenges players to explore interpersonal relationships and make critical decisions as they navigate a crumbling world.
The game is currently available for pre-order in the Free League webshop, where buyers can immediately access a complete PDF version.
Furthermore, The Electric State is poised to reach a broader audience with its upcoming adaptation into a film directed by the Russo brothers, featuring actors Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
