Aconyte Books and Fantasy Flight Games has announced the release of “The Darkness Over Arkham,” the first volume in the new Arkham Horror Investigators Gamebook series. Authored by Jonathan Green, this interactive narrative offers players the opportunity to step into the role of an investigator in the Arkham Horror universe.

The plot unfolds with the mysterious death of a professor, whose body is found melted, setting the stage for an investigation into arcane horrors. Unlike traditional books, this gamebook engages readers by allowing them to make decisions that affect the story’s progression.

Players can choose to embody one of three characters from the Arkham Horror games: Agnes Baker, Rex Murphy, or Nathaniel Cho. Each character comes with distinct strengths and weaknesses that influence their approach to solving the mystery.

Further expanding the gameplay, Aconyte will release additional Investigators for free download after the publication, enhancing the gamebook’s replay value. The series is designed to be compatible across volumes, enabling players to use any character in any book.

Gameplay features integral to the Arkham Horror games are preserved in the gamebook. Players manage skills such as Willpower, Intellect, and Combat, alongside Health and Sanity. The game also includes mechanics like clues, resources, and doom levels, which players must strategically manage to progress.

Included with the gamebook are blank character sheets, with pre-filled options available online, including mobile-friendly versions. This allows players to track their character’s stats and items digitally.

“The Darkness Over Arkham” is available for pre-order and will be available for sale in the US starting May 7.
