Step into the Shadows of 20th-Century New York: Omertà: The Five Families Hits Kickstarter
In a high-stakes journey through the gritty underworld of 20th-century New York City, “Omertà: The Five Families” has surged past expectations on Kickstarter, with a remarkable $40,312 pledged by 480 backers, surpassing the initial $10,000 goal. With 11 days remaining, the game is set to conclude its campaign on January 27.
A Glimpse into Omertà: The Five Families:
Designed for 2-5 players, “Omertà: The Five Families” combines area control and action points, immersing players in the cutthroat competition for control and dominion over the sprawling city. As the head of a crime family, each player must navigate the treacherous landscape, making strategic decisions to bolster their power.
The gameplay unfolds with a plot card play at the beginning of each turn, granting players action points — the currency of authority. These points are then strategically utilized to strengthen the family’s grip on the city. Players recruit and strategically position their capos in key locations, expanding territories and amassing wealth from illegal activities.
But this game isn’t just about expanding empires; it’s about mastering the political game. Players can throw caution to the wind by bribing the police to disrupt rivals or newspapers to enhance their public image and respect.
Amidst the chaos, careful management of alliances and rivalries with other crime families is crucial. Players must eliminate hostile family leaders who pose obstacles to their ascent, leaving them to ponder the ultimate question: Will they be the ones to etch their family’s legacy into the unforgiving concrete of New York City’s underworld?
