Skara Brae & The Anarchy: Two New Strategy Games from Garphill Games Now on Kickstarter
Garphill Games has launched two new standalone strategy games, Skara Brae and The Anarchy, now available on Kickstarter. Designed by Shem Phillips and Bobby Hill, with artwork by Sam Phillips.
In Skara Brae, players are transported to the Orkney Islands in Northern Scotland, where a group of farmers and hunters built a thriving community thousands of years ago. Players gather resources to feed, clothe, and shelter settlers, all while managing the challenges of midden piles, a unique aspect of the game’s setting. Over four rounds, players will draft cards, assign workers to various tasks like cooking and crafting, and aim to create a sustainable settlement. The player with the most points at the end of the game is declared the winner.
The Anarchy takes place during a turbulent period in 12th-century England, after the death of King Henry I. Players assume the roles of nobles loyal to King Stephen, building their domains and defending against attacks from the forces loyal to Matilda, Henry’s daughter. Over five rounds, players must build fortifications, craft siege weapons, and maintain loyalty to the king. The aim is to accumulate influence, bravery, and loyalty, while avoiding discontent, to prove their allegiance, and secure the largest earldom in the land.
Garphill Games emphasizes its commitment to quality, noting that its games are designed for long-term enjoyment with family and friends, rather than relying on flashy marketing tactics. They have also highlighted that backers of the campaign will receive their games before they are available in retail, along with promotional items not offered in stores.
With 15 days remaining in the campaign, the Kickstarter has already surpassed its initial goal, with $178,687 pledged from 1,515 backers, well above the original $14,413 target. The campaign is set to conclude on October 10th.
