Modiphius Entertainment to Bring Terry Pratchett’s Discworld to Tabletops Worldwide
Modiphius Entertainment Ltd. has announced the acquisition of rights to produce tabletop games based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. This development coincides with the 40th anniversary of “The Colour of Magic,” the first book in the iconic series, signaling a new chapter in the saga’s legacy.
Modiphius plans to introduce a tabletop roleplaying game set in the world of Discworld, focusing initially on the city of Ankh-Morpork. A Kickstarter campaign to support this project is expected to launch in late 2024. The company is also inviting feedback from the Discworld community through a survey, aiming to ensure the games resonate with fans’ expectations.
This initiative marks the first official Discworld RPG since 1998, distinguishing Modiphius’s upcoming release as a significant addition to the series’ adaptations. Modiphius has a history of creating games based on well-known IPs, such as Conan™, Star Trek™, and Fallout™, highlighting their expertise in translating beloved universes into engaging tabletop experiences.
Rob Wilkins of the Pratchett Estate expressed support for the collaboration, noting Terry Pratchett’s own appreciation for roleplaying games and his journey from a Dungeon Master to a celebrated author. The Estate’s endorsement reflects a trust in Modiphius’s capability to honor the essence of Discworld.
Chris Birch, Modiphius’s founder and chief creative officer, acknowledged the significance of Ankh-Morpork within the Discworld series and the broader roleplaying community. The focus on this city aims to capture the unique atmosphere and depth of Pratchett’s world.
