Inevitable RPG: A Play-to-Lose Arthurian Western Adventure Is On Kickstarter Now
SoulMuppet Publishing’s latest project, Inevitable, a doomed Arthurian Western RPG, is currently on Kickstarter and has raised over £17,500 with 29 days left to go. The campaign will end on May 11, and fans of the tabletop gaming community are eagerly awaiting its release.
Inevitable is a focused system for a play-to-lose Arthurian Western campaign where players take on the roles of disastrously sad cowboy knights who fail to stop the apocalypse. The game is set in the Kingdom of Myth, a land that has known peace and prosperity for centuries but is now on the brink of destruction. The Prophets have declared that the city shall burn, and Myth will fall, and it is inevitable.
Despite the fate that awaits them, players must defy it and prevent the destruction of the kingdom and their civilization. Inevitable provides options for one-shots and short campaigns, but the material in the book supports a full-length campaign with minimal prep, running for 3-6 months, choosing 3 of the available 6 Dooms. However, should players choose to use all the material and embark on this quixotic, almost impossible quest to save the world, they could be playing for years.
The game uses a new story game engine that relies on players’ character Reputations instead of stats. Reputations track how characters are spoken of in campfire tales, the saga of the Taleweavers, and the gossip of the royal court of Knightsholme. They are used in both the game’s resolution mechanics, where players build a dice pool by answering questions about their Reputations and the obstacles they face. Following a Challenge, players might gain advantages on their current Quest if they succeed or have the threat of the Quest increase if they fail.
Inevitable features six Dooms that threaten the grand kingdom of Myth, and one of them will destroy the world. The book also includes six classes to craft heroes, each with unique abilities and reputations, from the Errant Knights of the King to the sneakthief Shadowjacks.
