Atlas Games recently introduced its Enigma Puzzle Gamebooks on Kickstarter. The campaign has garnered significant attention, raising US$ 16,761, exceeding its US$ 5,000 goal, with 267 backers and 29 days remaining.
The Enigma series debuts with three titles. “Unhappy Birthday at Castle Slogar” is a solo adventure gamebook set in the Gloom universe, including stickers and a Grogar plushie. “Cryptid Hunt” offers a solo puzzle adventure centered on cryptozoology, accompanied by art prints and stickers. “A Guide to Dream Travel” is a storytelling gamebook aimed at creating bedtime stories, complete with stickers and a Steampunk D20 plushie.
These puzzle gamebooks are interactive, requiring readers to solve puzzles to progress through the story. They aim to balance challenge and accessibility, with “Unhappy Birthday” and “Cryptid Hunt” featuring dedicated websites for hints and solutions.
“Unhappy Birthday at Castle Slogar” features a 64-page softcover book with a full map of Castle Slogar and integrated hints. “Cryptid Hunt” is a sepia-toned 64-page book focusing on cryptid monsters, with a website for additional help. “A Guide to Dream Travel” offers a 42-page hardcover book with story prompts for creating bedtime tales.
In addition to the gamebooks, the Kickstarter campaign includes related merchandise like a plush Grogar from Gloom, a Steampunk D20 plushie, art prints from “Cryptid Hunt,” and sticker sets for each book.
