Osprey Games Set to Launch New Miniatures Wargame: When Nightmares Come
Osprey Games has announced the upcoming release of When Nightmares Come, a miniatures wargame that explores themes of supernatural horror and occult investigation. Scheduled for release on March 28th in the UK and April 30th in the US, the game introduces a novel blend of horror and strategy to the tabletop gaming scene.
Set in a modern era where the lines between myth and reality blur, When Nightmares Come challenges players to consider the possibility of a world infested by creatures of the night. The game positions itself uniquely by focusing on supernatural entities as adversaries rather than conventional foes, offering a fresh perspective on the wargaming genre.
Designed for both solo and cooperative play, the game allows up to five players to assume the roles of members of the Nightwatch, a group comprised of individuals dedicated to hunting down and confronting paranormal threats. This premise sets the stage for engaging gameplay centered around investigation and confrontation with the unknown.
When Nightmares Come is tailored for use with 28mm figures and is ideally played on a 2’ x 2’ area, emphasizing close-quarters encounters. The game’s requirements include miniatures, terrain pieces, a variety of dice, and other standard wargaming accessories, facilitating an immersive gaming experience.
The game structure includes Cases, or mini-campaigns, that combine narrative elements with tactical gameplay, designed to be completed within a 90-minute timeframe. The use of polyhedral dice introduces a dynamic system for character actions and enemy encounters, contributing to the game’s depth and replayability.
The rule book is comprehensive, covering all aspects needed to embark on the supernatural investigations, from creating characters to engaging with enemies, and navigating through the game’s mechanics. It’s structured to be approachable for beginners while offering complexity for experienced players, ensuring broad appeal.
