MTG Netflix Show: Not Cancelled After All!
Despite recent rumors of cancellation, Netflix has confirmed that the Magic: The Gathering series is still in development. During Netflix’s Geeked Week, a new teaser was released, showing that the animated adaptation of the popular trading card game is back on track with a new creative team leading the project.
The teaser features two of Magic: The Gathering‘s well-known characters, Ajani and Chandra, standing against a dramatic backdrop, sparking interest in what could be a new direction for the show. Alongside this reveal, it was announced that Terry Matalas, known for 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard, is the new showrunner, taking over from the previous creative team led by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame).
Originally set to focus on the Planeswalker Gideon Jura, voiced by actor Brandon Routh, the series now appears to be shifting its focus, though Netflix has not yet released specific plot details. This latest version of the show suggests a new direction from earlier plans, with Chandra and Ajani now appearing to be central characters.
Though the series has faced delays and changes in its development, the recent teaser confirms that production is moving forward. However, with limited information currently available, it may be some time before the series is ready for release. Netflix seems to be taking a cautious approach in revealing too much, likely due to the changes in the show’s production.
