“Maskwitches of Forgotten Doggerland,” a role-playing game set in the mystic and perilous Mesolithic period, has launched a successful Kickstarter campaign. The game, led by Jon Hodgson, allows players to explore the submerged prehistoric land of Forgotten Doggerland as Maskwitches who protect their communities from malevolent spirits.

Jon Hodgson, known for his work on “BEOWULF Age of Heroes” and “Adventures In Middle-earth,” has recreated the game’s visuals using traditional artistic methods, involving props, models, sets, photography, and digital painting, moving away from AI-generated art due to ethical concerns. This change brings a new layer of authenticity to the game’s visual narrative.

This new edition introduces gameplay enhancements such as optional rules that use masks as resources for tracking injuries and additional narrative elements that provide inspiration for character development and storytelling.

The Kickstarter campaign offers a variety of rewards including a hardcover or softcover book, a fully bookmarked and hyperlinked PDF version, and additional supplements like “The Meat Spoiler” and “To The Ice Caves.” Additional items such as a custom dice tray and various art and music additions are available to enhance the gaming experience.

As of now, the Kickstarter campaign has gathered $10,464, significantly exceeding the initial goal of $624. With four days remaining and the campaign set to end on May 14.
