Isla by Ocean City Games Now Live on Kickstarter – A Strategic Exploration Game
Ocean City Games has launched its latest tabletop game, Isla, now available for backing on Kickstarter until October 8th. Isla offers players a strategic experience as they explore a mysterious, uncharted island. Designed for 1 to 5 players, Isla blends exploration, resource management, and problem-solving into a dynamic and engaging gameplay experience.
In Isla, players take on the role of explorers navigating the island’s varied terrains, which include mountains, jungles, swamps, and cliffs. Along the way, they will encounter unique species, conduct research, and face various challenges. The game is structured around a series of rounds where players must make crucial decisions—whether to explore, rest, or research—while managing resources and navigating unexpected threats.
One of the central features of the game is the dice exhaustion mechanic, which limits how often players can use their dice for movement. As players explore the island, they must carefully manage the exhaustion and refreshment of their dice.
The game is divided into five phases: Planning, Dice Rolling, Rest, Exploration, and Research. In each phase, players make decisions that will influence their progress on the island. During the Planning Phase, players choose their action for the round—whether to explore, rest, or conduct research. The Dice Rolling Phase introduces potential complications with the chance of triggering threat cards, which can introduce new obstacles and risks.
In the Rest Phase, players can refresh their dice, allowing them to continue exploring in future rounds. The Exploration Phase enables players to move across the island, collecting tokens and navigating the terrain. Finally, during the Research Phase, players can exchange collected tokens for research cards, adding to their overall score.
The game continues until all players have either escaped the island or become lost, with final scores determined by various accomplishments, including exploration, research, and threat management.
Isla offers both solo and multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to experience the adventure either as a group or on their own. The solo mode introduces additional challenges, including the need to evade the island’s monstrous keepers, while still collecting research and managing resources.
The Kickstarter campaign for Isla runs until October 8th.
