Chaosium Joins Kobold Press in Saying No to AI

Amid the ongoing debate about AI’s role in tabletop RPG creation, Chaosium has reaffirmed its stance against the use of AI-generated content. Chaosium’s Vice President Michael O’Brien shared a section from the company’s FAQ on their blog, reiterating their commitment to original, human-created work. Their contracts require that submitted art and writing be entirely free from AI involvement.

This announcement comes as other major companies in the industry have taken opposing stances. Hasbro’s CEO, Chris Cocks, recently stated the company would embrace AI for Dungeons & Dragons, while Wolfgang Baur, CEO of Kobold Press, firmly pledged that they would not integrate AI in their games.

Chaosium, known for its deep roots in the RPG community, expressed concern over AI’s potential impact on artists’ livelihoods and the ethical complications it introduces. The company updated its contracts to ensure that all work is created by human hands, emphasizing its commitment to supporting creators and maintaining transparency.
