Magpie Games has released Urban Shadows Second Edition, an urban fantasy tabletop roleplaying game now available for purchase on DriveThruRPG. This updated edition builds on the original game, offering a refined experience that draws from nearly a decade of playtesting and feedback. Designed to be accessible to new players while satisfying longtime fans, the game invites players to explore a modern-day city where mortals and monsters clash in a battle for power and survival.

In Urban Shadows, players take on the roles of characters such as vampires, faeries, hunters, and wizards, each striving to carve out their place in a city filled with secrets and danger. The game revolves around the concept of Debt, a key mechanic that drives alliances, betrayals, and the ever-shifting dynamics of power. Players must navigate a world where supernatural politics and personal ambitions collide, making choices that will shape the fate of their characters and the city itself.

The game uses the Powered by the Apocalypse engine, ensuring that every action and dice roll advances the story. Players are faced with moral dilemmas: Will they protect the vulnerable, or exploit the weaknesses of others? Will they resist the darkness, or embrace it for personal gain?

The book includes twelve unique character playbooks, each designed to place characters at the center of the narrative. It also introduces four supernatural factions—Mortalis, Night, Wild, and Power—each with its own politics and influence on the city. The game provides clear mechanics and guidance for players and the Master of Ceremonies, the person responsible for running the game.
