Micro Mycelium: A New Tile-Placement Strategy Game Now on Kickstarter

ByDaniel Kling Lorentsen September 27, 2024

Micro Mycelium is a newly launched tile-placement strategy game that combines fast-paced gameplay with strategic depth. Designed for 1-4 players. Players take on the role of different mushroom types, strategically placing tiles to grow and defend their fungal territories.

The core gameplay revolves around placing tiles from a player’s market to the field and replenishing the market afterward. While scoring only happens at the end of the game, players must remain mindful of how to score throughout. Points can be earned by placing tiles in ways that leave spore sides unblocked, by connecting root sides to flower tiles, or by positioning tiles to link spores with stump tiles for higher scores. Although each turn is simple, the cumulative impact of these actions adds a layer of strategic depth as players compete to expand their territories while preventing opponents from scoring.

In addition to its base game, Micro Mycelium offers both solo and advanced modes, adding flexibility and a new level of challenge. These modes retain the core rules but introduce new mechanics, making the gameplay more complex for those seeking a deeper experience. Solo players, for example, are tasked with managing their faction’s tiles while aiming for equal scores across four different factions, earning merit titles such as “Shroom Showcase” and “Mushroom Masterpiece” for achieving balance.

The campaign for Micro Mycelium runs until October 26.
