Digital Release of “:Otherscape”: A New RPG Merges Myth and Cyberpunk

Illustrated poster for ":OTHERSCAPE" showcases futuristic, myth-infused cyberpunk characters bathed in neon light. Text reads "Mythic Cyberpunk RPG" and "Available Now – Digital Release." A corridor with pink hues and a glowing "Vacancy" sign completes the scene.

Son of Oak Game Studio, known for the Ennie award-winning City of Mist, has launched a new tabletop roleplaying game called “:Otherscape.” Created by Amit Moshe, this game combines mythological figures with a cyberpunk setting.

“:Otherscape” is set in the year 20XX within Megacities overwhelmed by “Noise”—a relentless flow of stimuli from ads to stock updates that consumes the inhabitants. Within this chaos, ancient supernatural entities known as Mythoi cling to existence by linking to physical objects in the modern world.

Players in “:Otherscape” are tasked with high-stakes missions to locate and secure these mythical objects. The game’s lore includes figures from King Arthur to Kitsune and Baba Yaga, set against a backdrop of futuristic cyberpunk elements.

Gameplay Dynamics

Utilizing the Mist Engine, “:Otherscape” offers gameplay that can be tailored to suit both new players and RPG veterans. Character creation revolves around key descriptors like “Summon Undead” or “Cybernetic Arm,” simplifying gameplay while maintaining depth. Actions are determined by rolling two six-sided dice (2d6) and adding relevant descriptors, streamlining play and keeping the focus on the narrative.

The digital launch includes two main volumes: “Metro: Otherscape,” the core rulebook, and “Tokyo: Otherscape,” a setting-specific book. “Tokyo: Otherscape” explores a Tokyo filled with both high-tech and mythical elements, from VR gear to Yokai spirits, creating a complex setting for adventures.

Both “Metro: Otherscape” and “Tokyo: Otherscape” are now available for digital download at $29.95 each. A complete digital bundle of all available PDFs is also offered at $49.95. Print versions are up for pre-order at $39.95 each, with a price increase to $44.95 scheduled post-launch in November. A comprehensive box set, including print versions of the books, an MC screen, character folios, tracking cards, and official :Otherscape dice, can be pre-ordered for $129.95, increasing to $149.95 after the release.
