Steamforged and Free League to Release Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum

Steamforged Games and Free League Publishing have announced an upcoming release that will bring Symbaroum, Free League’s dark fantasy RPG, into Steamforged’s Epic Encounters series, a line designed for 5e-compatible gameplay. The two new sets, Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum, are scheduled for release in February 2025.

The collaboration includes two sets, Gem in the Barrow and Corrupted Coloss, which merge the distinctive elements of Symbaroum with Epic Encounters‘ “adventure-in-a-box” format. Each set includes miniatures, maps, and encounters that are crafted to capture the setting and atmosphere of Symbaroum, known for its immersive storytelling and world design.

A collection of intricately detailed fantasy miniatures arranged on a forest-themed background inspired by the epic encounters in "Ruins of Symbaroum." The figures include warriors, wizards, and mythical creatures with highlights in green, set against a shadowy forest scene.
A miniature model of an ancient, tree-like creature with twisted branches and leaves stands on a textured base. The dark, mysterious background hints at a Steamforged fantasy setting akin to Epic Encounters, where silhouetted figures and glowing accents evoke the mystical Ruins of Symbaroum.

Symbaroum, first released in 2016, has been noted for its atmospheric setting and straightforward rules, and it expanded its audience further with the 5E adaptation, Ruins of Symbaroum. This marks the first collaboration in the Epic Encounters series, which has previously been described as a “Blue Apron for Dungeons & Dragons” by Forbes, with over 20 sets currently available.

Steamforged Co-founder and CCO Mat Hart noted the collaboration with Symbaroum designer Mattias Johnsson Haake, saying it was a positive experience working together to bring Symbaroum‘s style into the Epic Encounters format. Haake expressed anticipation for seeing Symbaroum’s signature art represented as Steamforged miniatures, aimed at engaging both existing fans and new players.

Epic Encounters: Ruins of Symbaroum will be released on February 18, 2025, and is available for pre-order on the Steamforged website.
