Privateer Press Explains Legacy Armies in Prime Arena for Warmachine

Amidst the chaos of Legacy Armies clashing, armored warriors and creatures engage in fierce combat. Some wield glowing weapons, while dragons and large mechanical beasts—reminiscent of Warmachine legends—dominate the battlefield under a sky filled with clouds and distant structures.

The new edition of Warmachine and Hordes brought a whole ton of changes to the game. That includes how armies are constructed. So, what about everyone that’s been playing the game for nigh-on 20 years at this point? Well, we get a look a bit about how that’ll work in Prime Arena in this article.

From the article:

There has been a degree of anticipation, speculation, and suspense since we first announced that some Mk III Legacy armies would make their way into the MKIV Prime Arena. To spare our players the consternation and suspense of waiting, we have decided to reveal Faction armies that will be grandfathered into Prime.

While each of the larger Factions will get two Prime armies, there are some smaller, more recent armies that will be added to Prime virtually in their entirety. These include the Convergence, Crucible Guard, Grymkin, and Infernals.

The larger Faction armies are based on the primary themes running through each Faction but are not based on the Mk III theme forces. These Factions include Circle, Cryx, Cygnar, Khador, Legion, Protectorate, Retribution, Skorne, and Trollbloods. These larger Factions also share small cadres of models and units that are shared between their armies.

A number of Mercenary armies were also included in the Prime Arena. These include Minion armies, which have been classified as Mercs in MKIV.
