Greyridge Games has announced the launch of their new game, Weirdwood Manor, on Kickstarter on April 18, 2023. The cooperative board game is designed for one to five players aged 14 and above, and it features a unique temporal mechanic that adds an element of surprise to the game, making it more engaging.
The game is set in Weirdwood Manor, where the goal is to protect the ruler, Lady Weirdwood, and the manor from the invading Fae Monster and his Clockwork Scarab minions. Players use dice drafting, card play, resource management, and location actions to progress through the game. However, every time a player or the Fae Monster takes an action, time moves forward in the game, and the connections between the rooms shift. This leads to unexpected strategies and game opportunities, keeping players on their toes.
Weirdwood Manor offers deep tactical choice and a degree of unpredictability, pivoting away from traditional leader quarterbacking. It requires players to strategize as a group to succeed. With high variability and replayability, players can choose from six asymmetrically designed characters, each with their own set of powers and cards, and three Fae Monsters, each with their own unique gameplay mechanics and challenges.
Greyridge Games debuted Weirdwood Manor at GenCon 2022, and since then, select players and board game aficionados have had a chance to demo the game. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with reviewers calling it “one of the most anticipated Kickstarters of this year!” and “a game that’s easy to recommend to anyone looking for an exciting cooperative experience!”
