2024 Player’s Handbook Becomes Fastest-Selling D&D Book in History
The 2024 Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook has become the fastest-selling D&D book in the game’s 50-year history. Released on September 17, this new edition has sold three times as many copies as the 2014 version during its launch. This achievement also surpasses the previous record set by Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything in 2020.
According to Wizards of the Coast, the Player’s Handbook was printed in significantly higher quantities than the 2014 edition, with three times the number of copies produced, marking the largest first print run for a D&D product.
Wizards of the Coast reported that the game has over 85 million fans worldwide and more than 18 million registered users on D&D Beyond.
The record comes at a time when Wizards of the Coast is trying to pivot into becoming a digital gaming company after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, and the upcoming release of their virtual tabletop Project Sigil. Whether they are still as committed to going all-in on digital after this new record remains to be seen.
