Studio Far Horizons Announces The Last Wardens Tabletop RPG: A Cosmic Horror Set in 1970s America

Studio Far Horizons has revealed The Last Wardens Tabletop Roleplaying Game, based on the Mad Cave Studios comic series by Amit Tishler and Elliot Sperl. Set in 1975 America, the game places players in the role of Wardens, tasked with defending humanity against an ancient and powerful force.

The game incorporates elements of grindhouse-style horror, cosmic threats, and supernatural themes from the original comic. Using the Year Zero Engine, it offers high-stakes, risk-and-reward gameplay, adapted to fit the 1970s setting. Players can create a “Cell” of human Wardens or play as a survivor of the Great Drift, facing changes brought on by their encounters with unknown horrors.

The Last Wardens focuses on uncovering the mystery behind previous Wardens, dealing with various threats, and establishing a secure base of operations. Players will face dangers from government agents, cults, and other adversaries as they navigate the game’s world.

A free starter game is available to download now. The full Limited Edition Core Game is set to launch on March 11, 2025, alongside the trade paperback release of the first comic arc and an audio drama series. The game will be offered in both digital and print formats, with the digital version priced at $19.99 and the print+digital edition at $39.99. Preorders placed before December 13, will include digital extras, such as Drifter STL files for 3D printing and exclusive character sheets.

This tabletop RPG is Studio Far Horizons’ first project and was developed in partnership with the comic’s creators. Additional content is planned to support the game’s 1970s setting and expand options for players and game masters.

Preorders for the Limited Edition Core Game are open until December 13.
