Cthulhu Project has a Kickstarter campaign up and running for Who is Lovecraft? their new board game where one player will be crowned the true author, while the others are just hack wannabes. You can check out a preview of the rulebook on their Kickstarter page.
The campaign is set to run for another 10 days.
From the campaign:
Each game card represents an idea for a story: a creature, a character, a place, an event… In the game there are 8 unique stories, and you must “write” these stories using your cards to show that you are the authentic Lovecraft.
The game has different rounds.
A round’s aim is decided by a roll of the dice: sometimes you only have to get one story to win the round, sometimes two, sometimes three. However you always start to play with only five cards, so you will need more cards to complete the stories, but beware, once you get them you will have to get rid of all the ones you have left! You will need to decide on your strategy!
Each card has a unique power, represented by its top icon. This power enables you to get additional cards, miss your turn; take cards from an opponent or to get rid of your own cards. You will use the powers depending on your strategy, the game’s progress and the aim of the round.
A round ends when a player meets the defined aim and manages to dispose of their remaining cards. The winner will mark their stories on the board and the losers lose sanity points for the cards remaining in their hand.
The first player who completes the eight stories on their board will be declared the true Lovecraft and win the game!
A game lasts approximately 60 minutes and is for 2 to 4 players. There will also be a fast-play method for 20-minute games.
