From their announcement:

Unified Theory Games has posted a preview of the Vortex: Core Rulebook cover. The original artwork can be seen in its entirety in the Observations section of the Unified Theory Games website. The free Vortex: Basic Battlefield Rules and a generous amount of free Bonus Material can be downloaded at www.unifiedtheorygames.com.

Look for news on the soon-to-be-released Vortex: Core Rulebook on UTG’s Facebook page.

The Vortex: Core Rulebook, scheduled for print in early 2011, is a fully customizable miniature skirmish game for use with any miniature in any setting.

Looks interesting, don’t have time to look at the rules yet but I will in the future. Has anyone used them and if so what for and how many miniatures are needed or can be used?

Very interesting, I have been looking for a system to use my random reaper minis in. I am off to check out these rules, there is a download on their site.

  • Vortex can be played with any number of miniatures per player from 1 to 1000.
However, 6-12 is a very common size.

….VOR: The Maelstrom already did this, even the name is the same or cose enough to be irrelevant as far as difference.

    Same people, or lawsuit upcoming?

      Same people, or lawsuit upcoming?

For 2011 can we make a resolution to keep legal discussion to lawyers?

Did what? Just made a customizable miniatures game? I’m not trying to be sarcastic or lead you, but am seriously interested in the similarities.

    • Veritas

I used to play VOR and, other than the fact that they both allowed customizable armies, there’s not that much similarity. These guys don’t offer ANY in house models or armies like VOR did. Also their fluff seems to me to draw on that horrible old TV show “Sliders” and not the Maelstrom from VOR.

  • Vortex by Unified Theory Games is not associated with Vor.
I’m afraid I am unable to speak with much authority on the similarities or differences in the two games as I have not read Vor; however, the Vortex: Basic Battlefield Rules contains the basic gaming engine (less the construction mechanics) and can be downloaded for free from unifiedtheorygames.com.
If you have Vor I would love to hear how the two games compare.
