Something I like to do, even more than playing games, is talking about games. I love getting into the deeper topics of the history of games or how the community has changed over time, and such like that. Don't even get me started on something like "what makes a good game." That could go on for hours. If you're like me, you'll probably want to check out Ticket to Carcassonne: 21st Century Tabletop Gaming. It's a new book that's out that discusses the tabletop gaming revolution that's been happening over the past 16 years.
The book covers gaming in the past decade and change. It discusses different genres of gaming, such as board games and card games, and gives a brief history of some of the most popular games in those genres that've come out recently. That includes interviews with some of the game designers, so you get a first-hand account of how some of your favorite games came to be. If you feel you've been sort of in a gaming rut, you can find out other games that are close to the ones you like, as the book recommends various titles you might not've thought to try before.
