The Witchborn is a miniatures skirmish game. Well, that’s not really correct. I mean, it is a miniatures skirmish game, but it’s also brings in a lot of role-playing elements to it. Even more than something like Mordheim, the decisions you make and the outcome of games really has a major impact on the progression of your war clan. They have released the first expansion set for the game, called Asylum.
In a post-apocalyptic world where the recently-dead tend to come back as very angry, very powerful, very frightening beings, sometimes you just gotta escape and go to a place where everybody knows your name. For characters in The Witchborn, that’s the Asylum. Here, characters can relax a bit, buy and sell goods, tell tall tales about what’s going on in the outside world, and maybe have a drink (or a couple dozen) at The Pit (that may or may not be the last bar in the world). The Asylum expansion comes with a huge 46″x39″ map on which your characters will play out their adventures. The map is made of vinyl, so you don’t have to worry about tears or spills (unless you really go crazy on them). The map depicts the Asylum and the surrounding area, but leaves some parts unexplored, ready to be used for adventure in Nightfall, the next expansion coming in 2016.
But that’s as may be. The Asylum expansion (along with the companion app that goes with it) is available now.
