The Hopeless Gamer have posted photos of the new FFG Star Wars X-Wing game.

X-Wing

From their announcement:

Fresh from the first day of GenCon, the Hopeless Gamer snagged some photos of the prototype Tie fighters and X-Wings for the new X-Wing fighter game from Fantasy Flight Games.

  • Verminous Fang

If those are the actual models, I may have to buy in, regardless of the game.

  • I’m not quite fond of the bases for this game…call it the purist in me that it mucks of the game, even if all the information is on the base.

    The models look cool.

Looks kinda like Wings of War with a star wars theme skinned over it. I approve. Now to wait till it gets released to kill me some rebel scum

  • The base share a similarity with WoW and the notion of damage cards is similar but the one thing that would make this game to actually be like WoW would be the movement decks. Does anybody know if that has been incorporated into the game?

    • Other photos I’ve seen show special turning templates they created for each type of maneuver/turn. Each one is sized with the actual turning radius and length for speed. interesting….

    • It doesn’t use a movement deck. It has a little dial that you use to select your maneuver and hide it from the opponent.

  • Scud

Without a sense of scale, it’s hard to say the size of the models but it looks to be the same ones from Starship Battles.

If so I’m a happy camper!

We are told at the show that the models are just concept models (in fact, hand painted and augmented models from Starship Battles)…

  • I played it. It’s very nice, and plays a lot like Wings of War, but uses a dial rather than cards. I was told these were resin prototypes from those I talked to. They were exceedingly fragile, as by day 4 of the con, about 5 of the X-Wing laser cannons had been broken off. Heck, even on the first day, an hour before the Exhibit Hall officially opened (got in on the Trad Day badge), a cannon was already broken off.
