Battlefront's Great War Sale Happening Now

Battlefront is heading back to WWI (a personal area of interest for me from my history grad student days) with Great War. The new version will be hitting store shelves in March, but they've gone ahead and opened up their webshop for pre-orders. Be the first gamer on your block with these kits when they're available.

Battlefront's Armistice Sale Happening Now

We just passed the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. It was, I consider, the true foundation of the rest of the 20th century. In honor of the end of the war, Battlefront is having a sale for the rest of November on Great War. They are also announcing that they are upgrading the rules to the current format for Battlefront games. Head on over and get your figures now.

Interbellum RPG Up On Kickstarter

We've got lots of games out there about WWII and subsequently, there's also a good number of Weird-War-II stuff. What I'd love to see more of is WWI games, and then, Weird-War-I stuff. *looks at Interbellum* Oh, hey there! The game is an RPG that brings in magic and other supernatural elements to the conflicts in the trenches in Western Europe. It's also up on Kickstarter now.

Green Miniatures Holding Miniature Competition

Do you want to help shape the look of a miniatures game? All of us certainly have our thoughts on what figures in a game should look like, and this is your chance to influence that. Green Miniatures is looking to you to help them out create figures based on the battle of Tannenberg. Just find a photo/drawing of the battle and point out which soldier you think should be made into a mini. You could win and that soldier will be put into the game.

World War One Rules Set Now Available in English

I studied WWI a lot back when I was getting my degree. I find that conflict fascinating, and it really was the foundation for everything that happened in the 20th Century. I'm often saddened about how it's often overlooked. Which is why I'm happy to see a set of rules for playing miniatures games in that setting. Green Miniatures has translated their Polish World War One miniatures game rule to English. They're free to download, too!

Ares Games Launches Tripods & Triplanes Kickstarter

During the midst of the Great War, the skies opened up and the heavens rained down. But this wasn't the enemy's shells. This was vehicles from another planet. The Martians are invading and both sides are finding that there's a new force to deal with. That's the story behind Tripods and Triplanes, a new standalone game in the Wings of Glory world. The game is up on Kickstarter now.

Tripods & Triplanes to launch on Kickstarter on November 28th

Ares Games, making of Wings of Glory, is looking to inject a little H.G. Welles into their game. They have announced that they are going to launch a Kickstarter campaign for Tripods and Triplanes. New WWI Wings of Glory Releases Available From Ares Games

You know, it really is amazing how fast airplane technology advanced during its early year. I mean, the Wright Brothers had barely gotten their flier off the ground, it seems, and then you've got aerial dogfights and bombers and all that sort of stuff going on. Truly amazing. And you can bring some of those fantastic early fighters to your tabletop with the latest WWI Wings of Glory releases from Ares Games. They're available now.

Ostfront Publishing Releases Westfront WWI Miniatures Game

In my opinion, WWI is really what set the foundation for the rest of the 20th century. I wish it was as prevalent in popular culture as WWII is. So every time I see a new game come out based on WWI, it makes me happy, as it brings the conflict back into mind. So I'm happy that Ostfront has released Westfront, a new WWI miniatures game.

Shattered Crown Weird War I Game Up On Kickstarter

Good news, everyone! We have defeated the Martians!
The problem is that the world alliance that was able to do so didn't really last, and it looks like all the nations are gearing up for what will surely be called The Great War.
That's the broad story behind Shattered Crown, a new alternate history miniatures skirmish game that's up on Kickstarter. The initial launch looks to fund a line of figures representing the Harlem HellFighters, the first African American regiment to serve in the American Expeditionary Force in the war.

Somme: Life in the Saps Card Game Up On Indiegogo

Back when I was working on my History Master's degree (I'll go back and finish it at some point... ... ...), I had a lot of interest in WWI. It really was, in my view, the first "modern war" and certainly what set the foundation for the rest of the 20th century. So when I see games based on it, considering how many are based on WWII, it instantly has my attention. As such, I'm definitely looking into Somme: Life in the Saps, a new card game that's up on Indiegogo.

Friday Snippets

We've once more made it to the weekend.
Well, almost to the weekend, anyway. We've still gotta finish today. But hopefully that won't be too painful to get through. Then... Yeah, I just love weekends. And as I've mentioned a couple times, tomorrow's going to be cram-packed full of gaming. I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully your day is likewise scheduled.
But before we get there, we should fill up on some bite-sized gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: New Tau Heavy Rail Cannon Array From Forge World, Iris Coming To Kickstarter in January, Purgatory Kickstarter is close to another stretch goal, New Mk IV tank From LaserCutCard, Two New APC Turrets Available From Kromlech, and Q'thulu Mini Up On Kickstarter.

Ares Games Posts Gen Con Pre-Releases

Ares Games will be in Indy in a week for Gen Con. Hopefully, you will be, too (I will be). If you're a fan of their games, you'll want to stop by their booth. Heck, even if you're not a fan of their current games (no game is going to please every gamer), you'll want to stop by, since they have several new games they'll be releasing at the show.

Old Dominion GameWorks Holding Fleet Action Imminent Sale

One of the most interesting periods in history, to me, is WWI. It basically set the stage for the world we have today. And one of the most important battles of that war was the Battle of Jutland when the British and German navies fought one-another off the coast of Denmark. Well, it's been 100 years since that famous battle and Old Dominion GameWorks is having a sale on Fleet Action Imminent to commemorate the event.

Grand Fleets: Tsar & Emperor now available

World War I is mostly known for the trench warfare along the Western Front, but it also included fighting between Russia and Japan. This was basically a second-act to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 (something some scholars call World War Zero). Now you can replay those naval conflicts with Grand Fleets: Tsar & Emperor.

King & Kaiser Sourcebook for Grand Fleets Released

Aaaanchors aweigh, my boy! Aaaanchors aweigh!
Or, one you probably know more of the words to:
In the Navy you can sail the seven seas!

Either way, I hope I've got some song stuck in your head. Also to be stuck in your head (after you buy it and read it, that is), is the King & Kaiser sourcebook, which is the first one released by Majestic Twelve Games for the 3rd edition of Grand Fleets. It's available now.

CoolMiniOrNot Releases The Grizzled

While WWII might get the majority of documentaries, movies, and games (video games, tabletop games, and other such), I always preferred learning about WWI. If I weren't doing TGN right now, I'd be finishing up a graduate degree in history, quite possibly studying WWI. It really was the first "modern war" as we know it. Machine guns. Tanks. Aircraft. All were used, either for the very first time, or highly refined and normalized into military tactics during the conflict. CoolMiniOrNot has just released the English version of The Grizzled, a cooperative card game that takes you into the trenches on the Western Front.

Friday Snippets

Well, after the fake-out that was on yesterday (a cruel trick by Wednesday in making me feel that the day after would be Friday, when it obviously wasn't), we have made it to the real Friday. It's going to be a busy one for me. I've gotta make a cheesecake tonight for a friend's birthday tomorrow, as well as raspberry and white chocolate syrups to go with it. Yes, it's all homemade.

As for other things you can cut up and eat in a single bite, here's some snippets I've come across in the past couple days.

This batch includes: Blacksmith Miniatures Releases Morbag The Goblin, Another World Miniatures: Painting Contest, Wild West Exodus Previews New Render, and New Wargames Vehicle range released from Waugh Games.

Ares Games Announces Gen Con Plans

Every day we get closer to Gen Con. And every day we get more news about what will be happening at the show. As such, every day we get just a little bit more excited. I hope we don't explode or something. That'd be sad, as being exploded would probably put a damper on going to the show. I wouldn't look like my ID picture anymore, so I don't know if they'd give me my badge. Anyway, exploding reporters aside, we have Ares Games' announcement about what they'll be having at the show.

Terrain Corner

Did anyone else's weekend just fly by? Heck, all of last week seemed to just rocket by. I usually end up with the same checkout clerk at the grocery store, since I go fairly early on Saturdays and there's only a couple lanes open. I remember saying, "... didn't we just do this?" Her week had gone by pretty fast, too. So it wasn't just me.
But whether or not it's gone by in an instant, or leisurely strolled its way by, we've made it once again to Monday.
... yay?

Well, one thing we can celebrate is a good-looking gaming table. That's what this post is all about. It's today's Terrain Corner.

In this batch we have: Acheson Creations Releases the Alpine Trench Section #4, New Heroic Maps: Wardenhale Public Spaces Released, Games Workshop Taking Orders for New Age of Sigmar Terrain, Novus Design 28mm Medieval Range Now Available, ProMatz - The worlds first customizable industrial grade gaming mat on Kickstarter, and ModelEarth posts latest terrain releases.
