Spearpoint 1943

Collins Epic Wargames is having themselves a sale on their Spearpoint 1943 items over in their webshop. For a limited time, they've created a couple bundles so you can get either their Eastern Front combo or Map Expansion Combo for a special price.
If cards are more your speed, compared to minis, you may think you have to skip out on WWII-themed games. Most card games are fantasy or super-heroes or sci-fi. Thankfully, Collins Epic Wargames has you historical-types covered with Spearpoint 1943. And it's all on sale this weekend.
It's Saturday. That means reviews. Without further ado, let's get to it.

Today's subjects include: Armello, Castle Panic: The Dark Titan Expansion, Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, Clash of Nebulas Battle Mat, Fog & Friction, Heroes, Takenoko Chibis, Mafia de Cuba, Volt: Robot Battle Arena, The King's Armory, Magic the gathering: Arena of the Planeswalkers, and Malifaux.

Collins Epic Wargames is running a Kickstarter campaign for their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front Heavy Weapons Expansion packs. These were packs that were offered as a stretch goal at the end of their previous Kickstarter campaign. However, actual production costs for the cards were higher than anticipated, and they were made at a significant loss. So the point of this Kickstarter is to bridge the gap a bit.
Collins Epic Wargames has some new releases they're working on for Spearpoint 1943, their popular WWII card game. One takes us to the Eastern Front, where the sleeping bear that is Russia has awoken, being poked by Hitler's forces, and has decided that such a poking cannot go unmauled. The other is a Heavy Weapons expansion, because big guns are fun.
Collins Epic Wargames has posted up some previews of the Scenario Cards they're working on as part of their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front game.

From the post:

Within Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, I wanted to do something a little different regarding scenarios. The original Spearpoint 1943 included nine free downloadable scenarios that were in an 8.5"x11" format. That's not the best format for a game box that's quite a bit smaller than that. So, for Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, I envisioned Scenario Cards. Most games that have scenarios include them in a rulebook or in a separate booklet, but what I don't like about that (and I'm guilty of it myself) is that the rulebook should be a standalone reference for the rules- separate from scenarios- such that either can be referred to during the course of a game independently. At least that's my theory.

Collins Epic Wargames has made it over their funding goal in their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front Kickstarter campaign. So they're looking for stretch goals for the next 11 days.

From the update:

Yesterday, thanks to you, the funding goal of $12,000 for this project was met! Thank you very much for making that happen!

With a little less than 2 weeks to go, we are switching gears a bit to focus on how we can further enhance Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front. How that occurs is by meeting stretch goals which help us afford additional component production, art, and development costs.

We have some awesome stretch goals in mind. The first one has already been revealed in a previous update: If we hit $13,000 in total funding, we will add five additional Russian Unit Cards to the game. Those cards will be based on Units you vote on to include that are not already included!

Collins Epic Wargames has added a new add-on for their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front Kickstarter where you get a one-on-one skype tutorial with the game makers.

From the update:

Want the designer to teach you the rules and play through a game virtually? This add-on does just that. If you add this to your pledge, we'll schedule a 1 on 1 tutorial session with you via Skype (free video chat software). We'll play a few games until any and all questions are answered- and have a lot of fun in the process!

Collins Epic Wargames has posted a free print-and-play combat demo .pdf of their Spearpoint 1943 game over on their Kickstarter campaign.

From the update:

We are revealing our first Stretch Goal! Stretch Goal #1 is graphically shown below and on the main project page (with more information about Stretch Goals). If we reach $13,000 in funding ($1,000 above our minimum goal), we will add 5 additional Russian Unit Cards to Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front- all chosen by you- the backers of this project. This is a great way to enhance the game and have a say on what additional Units you'd like to see added from a list of Units that didn't quite make the cut into the core game. Please help us reach Stretch Goal #1!

From the campaign:

Frontline General: Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front is an easy to play tactical wargame set in the Eastern Front of WWII. It is a new standalone game in the Spearpoint 1943 Expandable Card Game (ECG) series.

Collins Epic Wargames have posted previews of two of the terrain cards from the Spearpoint 1943 Village and Defensive Line Map Expansion.

From their announcement:
Tile 1A
Feature Tiles in the Village and Defensive Line Map Expansion for Spearpoint 1943 add various terrain modifiers and associated effects (summarized on each tile), provide defensive cover and shelter from attacks for units that may occupy them, and are dynamically setup with each game. Even within the same scenario the game plays out differently due to where the terrain is placed and oriented (similar to a miniatures game).

This particular tile (1A) is the front side or A-side of Tile 1, a simple Italian house. The icons on the lower left convey "Infinite defense for infantry within this building except if attacked by bombs, tanks with large guns, or rear line artillery". Infantry may also enter the building and fight within. The upper right of the tile is the title, identifier is on the upper left, and a note stating that "walls block LOS through" means that if a line of sight is traced between an attacker and target, and the line crosses the artwork of the house itself (not the yard), the line of sight is blocked. LOS is very important in the expansion. The highlighted edges are related to LOS, but will be explained using the next tile preview- the ruined version of the same house- as this and other buildings on used on the Village side of the map may all be destroyed...

Component Production Size: 4" Square, nominal.
