Settlers of Catan

Fantasy Flight has a couple more releases available for you today. Lovers of the Legend of the Five Rings can rejoice, as the new Emerald Empire book is now available. Now, they can go all sorts of fantastic places in Rokugan for themselves. Those that love the Game of Thrones Catan game can add in the 5-6 player expansion, perfect for any holiday get-togethers you might be going to. And then there's the Lord of the Rings Card Game expansion you can pick up, too.

It's a pretty old cliche. "I've got wood for sheep." Settlers of Catan is a rather iconic game series. Well, a new chapter is being added to the long and storied history of the game, being joined with a fantasy series that also has a long and storied history. Fantasy Flight Games has announced that they're coming out with A Game of Thrones Catan.
When you're reading this, I'm hopefully using my Battle Chef in combat.

But that's me.

For you who's here reading the site, I've got your Review Roundup for you.

Today we have: Hail Caesar, Force on Force, Codenames, Five Tribes, Legends of Andor The Star Shield, Ninja All-Stars, The Grizzled: At Your Orders, Aviary, Booty, Catan: Explorers and Pirates, Allegiance: A Realm Divided, and The Golfing Dead.

Well, this is quite a thing to start off the morning. How many here have played any of the various Catan games? *watches damn-near everyone put their hand up* Yeah, that's what I figured. Catan has quite a long and storied history. Well, that history is getting a new chapter, as Asmodee North America has acquired the license to the English language publishing and sales of Catan from Mayfair Games.
During Gen Con 2013, Mayfair Games made history by breaking the world record for "the most people playing Settlers of Catan simultaneously." Well, on the Friday of Gen Con this year (which is July 31st), Mayfair is looking to break that record again. The current is set at 922. Do you want to be in on it? You get some cool swag. Plus, the game is in support of charity.
Settlers of Catan might be coming to a small or big screen near you at some point. Gail Katz, (Perfect Storm, Air Force One) has picked up the rights to make film and tv series based on the popular board game.
Could we be hearing "I've got wood for sheep" said by a famous actor soon? We'll just have to wait and see.

From the announcement:
Catan Dice TowerLITKO will be producing an official Settlers of Catan Dice Tower.

From their announcement:
LITKO Game Accessories (Valparaiso, IN) is proud to announce we have been granted official license by Mayfair Games (Skokie, IL) to produce and distribute the new LITKO Settlers of Catan portable Dice Tower. LITKO is excited to be affiliated in this capacity with the Settlers of Catan brand, and with Mayfair Games. The portable dice tower is made of high quality laser-cut acrylic in the vivid red and golden Catan colors.

We've included thematic etching depicting the original box cover artwork as well as the Catan logo. The function of the tower is to roll and keep your dice in the tower, and off the floor. This also keeps errant dice from skipping across the game board and disrupting game pieces. The Catan Dice Tower can be assembled and disassembled in seconds, and is engineered to store flat inside the original Settlers of Catan game box. The Catan Dice Tower will be available for sale by GenCon 2011 at the Mayfair Games booth, on-line at, as well as through distribution, LITKO retailers, and of course Mayfair Games. The tower carries a Suggested Retail Price of $19.99.
