You might look around you at times and go, "I don't want to live on this planet anymore." Well, in Lift Off!, getting the heck out of here is exactly what you're attempting to do. Players are trying to clear out their aliens before the whole planet explodes (we may have things going wring right now, but at least the whole planet's not about to go kerplooey... hopefully). The deluxe edition of this game and its expansions is up on Kickstarter now.
From the campaign:
It’s been a fun existence, but someone tripped over a coolant cord in the core and the planet you’ve called home for eons is going to explode.
The objective of Lift Off! Get me off this Planet! is to be the first player to get their Aliens off the planet using resource cards, action cards‚ and phases of the moon.
Lift Off! Get me off this Planet! is a fresh, lightweight take on unit placement and resource management. The cooperative-to-competitive dynamic and imminent doom creates strong tension and drama at the end of the game.
It's an easy to learn, fast-paced game, where everyone feels engaged and "in it" until someone has won or the planet explodes!
The campaign's more than 2x funded with 10 days left to go.

For as long back as anyone can remember, the Foxen have lived in peace and harmony with the forest and the Guardians that reside there. However, after a massive earthquake, old Guardians returns. They weren't the sunshine, happy Guardians, but the dark and terrible Guardians long thought gone forever. That's the story behind Skulk Hollow, the new board game available now from Pencil First Games.

Sure, I'm having myself a blast here at the CMON Expo, but that doesn't mean I'm too busy to take a bit of time to get you your Review Roundup this week. That just wouldn't be right. So let's get to it.
Today we have: Team Play, Raid and Trade, Beast of Balka, Witch’s Brew, Blood Rage, Blood Rage - 5th Player Expansion, Blood Rage - Kickstarter Exclusives, The Siblings Trouble, Temp Worker Assassins, Android: Mainframe, Rubicon's M8 Greyhound/M20, Across the Dead Earth miniatures and, THMiniatures Terrain.
As stated in the game’s title “Raid & Trade”, this game focuses on raiding and trading, but offers the experience of a post-apocalyptic exploration game with smatterings of combat and set collection thrown in for good measure.
In Raid & Trade, players act as survivors of a third world war and are attempting to win the eye of the Regents of the Golden City. The players do this by attaining favor, crafting items to bolster their skills, and satisfying quests that are exposed as the game progresses. This game is highly interactive as players trade and fight with each other, vie for houses to raid and the Outpost to gain favor, and search for the right combinations of resources.
Beast of Balka is a two-player abstract tilt of maneuver and encirclement. Pieces are represented by tokens and move about hexes on a roughly hexagonal board. Players control four hunting parties each, while the beast begins in the center with four bloodlust tokens – aka hit points – beneath it. There are two smaller monsters, salamanders, with a bloodlust token apiece which also begin in the middle of the board.
Witch’s Brew is a role selection/resource management card game for three to five players. Players are witches in a potion-making contest. They recruit helpers to gain ingredients, money, and ultimately potions. The player with the most points is the winner.
In this video you can find out my thoughts on Temp Worker Assassins by David Newton. This review is based on a prototype of the game ahead of the kickstarter launch.
In this review Battle Brush Studios' Sigur takes a look at one of Rubicon Model's latest releases - the M8 'Greyhound' / M20 Armoured Utility Car.
After a troubled development phase and some interesting attributes for a recon vehicle, the M8 became a staple for US cavalry formations and saw use around the world up to this day.
In this review Battle Brush Studios' Sigur takes a closer look at the latest release for Dead Earth Games' Across the Dead Earth, a post-apocalyptic skirmish game set in the UK.
The figures depict a pair of sisters who seem to be quite capable of surviving in the remains of civilization.
Universal Head has been looking for some atmospheric tabletop terrain for ages, and is excited about this particular Kickstarter campaign by THMiniatures. The Esoteric Order of Gamers reviews this gorgeous resin scenery, paints it up, and see how it looks on the gaming table.

It's Saturday. Those of you that are at KingdomCon, be sure to selfie responsibly. #RossFace For me, it's the weekend before CMON Expo, so I'm super-busy getting things put together for the show. Lots to do, both work-related and just other things I need to get done.
In the meantime, though, I'm taking a break from baking German Chocolate Cake Cookies to bring you your regularly-scheduled Review Roundup.
Today we have: Blood Rage, Gempacked Cards, Star Realms, Polyversal, Scathach Games M.T.S Shipping Containers, Tash-Kalar Everfrost Expansion, VS 2PCG Defenders Expansion, Twilight Struggle Digital, Onimata, Warfighter, Stronghold 2nd Ed., Adventure Land, Thunder & Lightning, Celestia, Greedy Greedy Goblins, Splendor iOS, Feed the Shoggoth, Kingdom Death: Monster, and Res Publica 2230AD.
The thing that makes Polyversal stand out from the crowd is its being designed as a toolkit game, i.e. players can create army lists themselves and can take any miniature they own and use them in the game, but they are also planning on releasing the starter set of the rules with miniatures from different manufacturers to show players what’s being produced these days and also allow players to get a game going quickly whilst they start designing their own armies.
Join us as we check out the M.T.S Shipping Containers and accessories from Scathach Games, a UK based company specialising in laser-cut terrain for games like Warhammer 40k, Necromunda, and Infinity. Scathach Games contacted us a while ago asking if we’d review some of their terrain, and kindly sent over the products below. First we’ll have a look at the parts included in the various kits, and then what we can build out of them. As you can see below, they’ll definitely be handy for modern and sci-fi skirmish and wargames.
What follows is a thematic story “review” based on my recent solitaire session of Warfighter by DVG. Warfighter is a card-based tactical game of modern warfare, focusing on smaller groups of soldiers who are undertaking missions through enemy territory.
Stronghold is an asymmetrical two-player game. One player is the Defender, attempting to defend his medieval fortress. The other player is the Invader. Her horde of goblins, orcs, and trolls are trying to take the fortress from the Defender. Stronghold is a long and involved game, so I will not even attempt to list and explain every rule, action, and phase. Instead, let me just give you an overview of what the game feels like.
Adventure Land brings players to a medieval fantasy realm filled with swords, magical herbs, and deadly monsters. Players send their team of adventurers across the land, using strategy and smarts to score points by collecting valuable items, defending cities, and defeating evil.
In Thunder & Lightning, you’re playing in a grid made up of columns and rows. At the beginning of the game, Thor and Loki each draw nine cards from their draw deck.
It's time once again for you to place your evening in our large, spindly hands. Following on from Arboretum and Pasta With Trees, why not invite your friends over for a game of Celestia and a fluffy frittata?
Lovely push-your-luck mechanics? Check! Little cardboard boat? Check! Vegetables? Check!
We're not sure who'd have a checklist like that, but if you do, we should hang out. Get in touch!
Here’s how Greedy Greedy Goblins works: 2-4 players all want to be the first to reach 100 gold coins. Between these players are a circle of mineshafts. Between the shafts is a giant pile of tiles. Running your hand across these tiles makes a sound like a wave pouring over a pebble beach, but don’t start daydreaming! Daydreams are for winners.
When it comes to great family games, one doesn’t have to look much farther than Splendor to find an award-winning example. A gem of a game (pun intended) from publisher Space Cowboys, Splendor sucked people in with its very accessible rules and entertaining engine building mechanics. We actually reviewed Splendor a while ago, and have played it quite a bit since then. Today, we are going to take a look at the tablet version of this popular board game and see how this gateway game translates to the digital realm.
Feed the Shoggoth! is a fast paced card game where you play a cult faction leader trying to earn victory points by sacrificing minions to the hungry Shoggoth. Sounds easy right? Wrong!
Red Publica 2230AD is all about set collection and trading. The game works by building an increasingly complex tableau of cards in front of you that give extra options and more importantly victory points. To build these cards you need to collect sets from one of two decks, races and sciences. You'll gain new cards at the end of every turn but to get the cards you need you're going to have to trade with other players.

It has once again come to Saturday. I love it when that happens. Good thing it happens fairly regularly.
So let's not worry about ceremony too much. Let's get on with the reviews.
Today we have: Roll for the Galaxy, Magic the Gathering Arena of the Planeswalker - Battle for Zendikar Expansion, The Siblings Trouble, the Patchwork App, Circus Flohcati, Lanterns: The Harvest Festival, Star Wars: Rebellion, Odin's Ravens, My Happy Farm, The Golden Ages: Cults & Culture, The Last Spike, and Piratoons.
Digidiced’s Patchwork is an Android, iOS and Windows app based on the Uwe Rosenberg’s two player board game of the same name.
Silence your push notifications, ignore your instagram updates and charge all of your devices, while we take a critical adventure into a Tron-like fabric world.
Circus Flohcati is a press-your-luck set collection game for two to five players. Players compete to collect the best acts for their flea circuses, putting together trios and solo acts. The player with the most valuable circus at the end of the game wins.
Lanterns is a set collection and tile laying game that has you competing to build the lantern display that earns the most honor from the palace. At the beginning of the game, the starting lantern tile is placed in the center of the board and each player is given one lantern card in the color that corresponds to the color on the side of the tile he is facing. (Lantern cards are always kept face up in front of the players so that everyone can see them.) Players are also given three lake tiles. The point tiles are stacked by color/type and in descending order and placed beside the board.
When you see the title and the cover of The Last Spike for the first time, you’re going to think it’s a typical train game where route building, pick-and-and-deliver, or stock manipulation may be the main theme. The Last Spike has route building at its core, but also incorporates set collection and cash management into its gameplay mix.
The Last Spike is published by Columbia Games and is a game for 2-6 players that plays in 45 minutes. It is a re-imaging/re-packaging of the same game first published in 1976 by designer Tom Daigliesh.
In Patchwork, two players square off to see who can create the best quilt from a variety of differently shaped pieces. During the game, players will be purchasing patch pieces that must be fit into a 9×9 grid. Each piece will have a Tetris-like shape, with some of those also containing buttons.
There are two kinds of pirates; the yo-ho-ho, bottle of rum cartoon pirates and the real life murderous thieves. Thankfully Piratoons is well into the cartoon version as you compete with other pirates to make the best possible pirate ship.
Piratoons is an auction and set collection game, you will have a short auction over a limited number of ship components and then at the end of the game you will score points based on a number of criteria; such as biggest ship, most sales, prettiest ship and collecting full sets of crew, canons and cabins.
