Mars Attacks

Steve Jackson Games has started taking pre-orders for a couple of new RPG books based on some rather popular properties. First off, they've got the GURPS books for both Mars Attacks and Discworld.

Warehouses are not infinite in size. They can, and often do, get filled up with things. This can be a problem when you've got a bunch of new, cool things you need to store in it. Mantic is running into that problem. Their warehouse is full, but they've got a bunch of new games on their way. That means they need to make some room. That's good news for you.

And our TGN broadcast day will end with one of the bigger sales for the weekend. Mantic Games doesn't disappoint with their Black Friday sales announcement. This weekend you can pick up Deadzone for 50% off. Yeah, half off. I know. Pretty good deal.

Welcome once again to Saturday. It's been quite a morning over here. Rather busy for a Saturday. Biggest thing I've been working on is my decision to magnetize my Betrayal at Calth set (yes, this means it's not 100% assembled yet. The games I've been playing of it have been using stand-in figs for much of it. It happens). The only problem comes from maneuvering small, fiddly pieces that, very literally, will move on their own. As such, I have glue all over my fingers. Thankfully, though, on at least one occasion, that's helped me when my drill bit slipped and instead of giving me a scrape, it just gouged the glue that'd built up there. So, an asset hidden in a liability.

But that's a story for when I post the review later today. At the moment, we've got other reviews/previews to deal with.

In this batch we have: Late French Napoleonic Infantry from Perry Miniatures and Warlord Games, Dark Moon, Clockwork Kingdom, Queen of the Hill, Dice Masters: The Amazing Spider-Man, Conquest at Kismet, Barony, Star Wars Armada Wave 2 Ships, Tides of Time, Pentoggle, Mars Attacks Miniatures Game, Risk: Star Wars Edition, Space Cadets: Away Missions, Bomb Squad, Escape the Nightmare, and T.I.M.E Stories.

Day 2 is about to be in the books (as it's only got about 15min. left and then I'm going to go to sleep). It was quite a wild and busy Friday. The frantic-ness of Thursday turned into a more calm, but no less busy Friday. Everyone was buzzing about the games that they'd picked up the day before or tried overnight.

I, of course, once more made my rounds of the place and got some galleries of photos over on the TGN Facebook page.

Mantic brings the Mars invasion to your tabletop with Mars Attacks. Now they want to give one lucky Facebook follower a whole invasion force of their own. When they hit 23k likes, they'll select one winner to get a massive Mars Attacks prize pack worth of £300. All you have to do is "Like" their page. If you already do, then you're already entered. The prize pack includes the original box game, the World War expansion book, and both American and Martian forces. Check below the cut for a full list.

Mantic has updated their Mantic Points program. Don't know about the Mantic Points program? It's pretty simple. Buy Mantic products, get Mantic points. Trade them in for free stuff. They've updated their program to add new minis from Mars Attacks. Whether you favor towards saving humanity, or vaporizing it, these new figures would be a welcome addition to your Mars Attacks game.
Note: They also let slip that there's going to be a limited edition Mars Attacks supplement going live soon.
Stay tuned.

Mantic is expanding their Mars Attacks world off the gridded battlefield of Greenville and taking to the wide-open spaces of a miniatures gaming tabletop. Mars Attacks: World War expands on the basics of the Mars Attacks board game to make it a fully-customizable miniatures skirmish game. Now you can make your own forces to fight the Martian invasion... or BE the Martian invasion, whichever you choose. They've also got a special deal going on where you can get the World War book for free if you order the Mars Attacks box game from their webstore before May 24th.
ACK!

Mantic is prepped for the third wave of invasion from the Martians coming to Earth. They're now taking orders for the next set of Mars Attacks minis. The figures are pre-assembled in colored plastic, so they're ready to play right out of the box. The exception to that is the giant robot, since it has interchangeable weapons. Also, the terrain is modular, so you'd have to assemble that, but it's meant to be put together and taken apart over and over. This wave, things get really serious with the giant spider and mutant ant, the Martian Science Division, and the Tiger Corps defense team.

Ack!

It's Saturday! Hope you're getting in some gaming. As I mentioned yesterday, I'm currently getting my arm repeatedly jabbed and ink permanently applied to it. It's fun!... Really!...
Actually, it's not so bad, honestly.
And I'm sort of a wimp when it comes to needles. So if I can do it, you can, too (if you want).

But anyway, as usual, we've got our regular feature of collecting all the review articles we found all week and have them here for you now.

Included this week are reviews/previews of: Eggs and Empires, Meteor, Summoners Wars Aliiances Master Set, Dreamforge Valkir Assault Troopers, D&D Miniatures Ancient Silver Dragon, New Mars Attacks Terrain Sprues, March of the Ants, Bill Shakespeare Is Dead, Lords and Ladies, Find my Monsters, and Ion.

Mantic's very own Ronnie Renton gives us a bit of a look back at 2014, but more so, a look forward to 2015 and what they've got in store. Sounds like they'll have lots of (free) rules posted online about many of their games. Kings of War will be getting beta rules posted prior to their 2nd edition release. Mars Attacks is getting a set of rules to take it from the board game board to the miniatures gaming board, making it a proper war game. And Deadzone is going to be getting intro rules posted online, as well as a new faction coming out later this year.

There's also a calendar of upcoming Mantic releases and a Q&A with Chris Palmer. Go get a copy for yourself.

Steve Jackson Games has a new Mars Attacks-themed dexterity game over on their website. Take the custom-made 14mm die and use your chipboard flying saucer to target the human cities. Knock them down to score points. Obviously, it's a bit different take on things from, say, the Mantic Mars Attacks Game. :P

ACK! ACK!

Mantic is now taking orders for their new Flatbed Truck for Mars Attacks over in their webshop. Be the first gamer on your block to get one when they're released (except for those that got one in the Kickstarter, I suppose).

Source

From the announcement:

With the majority of their vehicles destroyed or rendered useless by the invaders, the armed forces of humanity went back to basics in Greenville, repurposing flatbed trucks to fight back against the Martian Menace. These trucks transported soldiers around the town, and were even sometimes armed to take the fight to the enemy.

Mantic lets us know how things have been moving along with a couple of their projects, plus a tease at the next one they've got coming up.

Source

From the post:

We are continuing this year and next to keep investing in our two worlds – The Kings of War realm and the Warpath universe. Other licenced properties hopefully will open new doors for the wider range and bring Mantic to more hobbyists – and ultimately that is what I want Mantic to stand for. Fully formed, interesting worlds and universes that can be gamed in.

I want to see a day when every school boy – and girl if they like – has a Mantic Tabletop miniatures game somewhere in their cupboard. It would be fantastic if people think of Mantic as a friendly gaming company that offers great toy soldiers, and fun games at reasonable prices – and as something they would like to spend their free time doing. Obviously the commitment to a skirmish game will be different than for a full mass combat wargame – some fans will be more committed than others. But I hope we can get to a place that anyone who wants to, can access a hobby that whether they enjoy collecting, painting or playing it is open and easy for them to do so.

ACK! MARS ATTACKS!!

Mars Attack

Only in Mars Attacks can you take command of a bunch of Martians to chase down and slaughter humans, avoid flying cars hurled by giant robots, engage in heroic battles with a knight in shining armour and oh, set fire to cows! What more could you ask for from a game?!

TGN Feature

Mars Attacks: The Miniatures Games is the crazy tabletop game of Martian Mayhem from Mantic Games. The simple rules and random event cards together with the coloured, ready to play plastic miniatures, add up to a wacky, incredibly fun game, which is both immersive and cinematic.

There is now less than 24 hours to go until the end of the Mars Attacks Kickstarter and a lot has been achieved over the last couple of days, including:

- 1 Free complete Giant Stompy Robot with Shrink Ray and shrunken soldiers in Bloodshed on the Battefield and Alien Abduction
- Free Martian Army Standard Bearer in pledges of $300 or more.
- Collector’s Edition Rulebook – free in pledges that total $200 or more.
- Free Giant Mutated Bug in pledges of $150 and up (including Early Bird The Invaders Arrive).

Yep, that’s a lot of stuff – and with a limited amount of time left, we hope to add much more…

Mantic fills their updates to the brim, that's for sure. They've only got a couple days left on their Mars Attacks Kickstarter and are still adding new things on. They've got new pledge levels that make it simpler to know what you're getting, mini-stretch goals to add some excitement in and some add-ons, which include dice. We can always use more dice.

Source

From the campaign:

As we go in to these exciting last 48 hours we’ve continued to improve our front page with a simple new guide that shows you how to pick your pledge - this should help the backers who have been with us all the way pick exactly what they want, and the new backers see what a great deal it is and jump aboard.

Both will be available for you to spend your credit on too.
