Kids Table Board Gaming
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a paleontologist. I'm sure many of you did as well. Dinosaurs are just inherently cool. Well, I might not have ended up as a paleontologist, but I can still live the life vicariously through Fossils, a new, uniquely designed board game that's up on Kickstarter now. Grab your shovel and get going!
From the campaign:
In Fossilis you spend plaster to find and extract dinosaur fossils from the unique 3D dig site, actually using tweezers to pick the bone you want from its hiding spot. Store the bone or add it to a dino display you're preparing in your lab!
Each turn, you have three energy points to spend moving around the site, collecting plaster, digging through layers of terrain, and extracting fossils.
As you remove Terrain tiles from the board, you claim the tile for the precious fragments (eggshells, footprints, and amber) found on them. They can be used to buy helpful Tools or Supplies. Sometimes you'll find lost rock hammers in the dirt... return them to the display to learn game-changing skills as a reward!
You can claim a dinosaur to your lab as long as you have at least one of its required bones. Your lab can only hold one dinosaur at a time, so you must score your dinosaur before taking another.
The plaster pool works as a timer for the game. Each time it's exhausted, an Event takes place that may have positive or negative effects on the game. Once the last pool runs out, game end is trigged. You earn points for the Tools and Supplies you've claimed and the different sets of dinosaurs you've collected throughout the game.
The campaign's more than 2x funded with 22 days left to go.
Mine's been busy so far. We're just a couple weeks out from Gen Con, and that means about a million little things to get done (along with a couple big things) before heading to the show. My "To Do" list is imposing, but with steady work, I'll chew through it all.

SET and Dragonwood Review (Editor's Note: I LOVE SET!)
SET is the “The Family Game of Visual Perception” originally published in 1988 by SET Enterprises for ages 6+. The name of the game says it all. You are creating sets of 3 cards that have all of the same attributes OR all different attributes. Sounds pretty easy until you see that the cards each have 4 different attributes – Symbols, Colors, Numbers and Shading, and that all 4 of the attributes have to be the same or different. You can’t have 2 cards that are green and 1 that is purple. You have to have all of the cards the same color or all of the different colors. The same goes for the rest of the attributes in a set.
Millennium Blades Review
Millennium Blades is a game in which you and your opponents play the fictional CCG game Millennium Blades. Don’t worry though, everything you need to play Millennium Blades is in the box, there is no money sink on booster packs here.

Fate of the Elder Gods Kickstarter Preview
Gender Role Selection (A Review of Burano)
Players in Burano lead prominent local families directing their clan’s productive and domestic affairs. While cooperatively building one of the more famously colorful communities in the world in the process, each patriarch/matriarch earns points by sending out men to do men’s work – like fishing – and women to do women’s work – like sewing. It’s the rules, so remember, don’t shoot the reviewer.
I Was Told There’d Be Cake (a review of Happy Party)
Happy Party is a dexterity/memory game for two to four players. Players roll dice and blow out cake candles to collect presents for their wish list. The first player to complete his or her wish list is the winner.
Where’s the Taxes? (A Review of My Village)
Each player will be charged with the care and growth of an idyllic village with the goal of creating a town to be remembered for generations to come. You’ll be training your villagers in various professions, selling wares, farming the land, and constructing various religious and civic buildings. Death of your villagers, either via rat infestations or old fashioned time, will need to be monitored in order to make sure everything runs smoothly. You begin the game with six trained villagers and a handful of coins in order to achieve greatness. Moment to moment achievements are less important than ones that will last for generations. A church building that will last for years grants prestige points, whereas minor achievements only grant story points that need to be actively converted into prestige points.
How about you? What sort of gaming-related activities did you do yesterday/have planned for today?

Hi! My name is Grant Rodiek. I’m a 31-year-old video game developer who lives in San Francisco with my fiance (wife shortly) and corgi. I devote my free time to creating and playing tabletop games, running, and trying out as many San Francisco restaurants as possible. I’m obsessed with games and they’re constantly on my mind.
The Fiver with Joshua Cappel on Designing Foodfighters
Hi, folks at home! I’m Joshua Cappel. “Cappel” rhymes with “lapel”, in case you ever find yourself needing to say it out loud. You never know, right? I am from Toronto, Canada, and I’m a game artist and game designer. My hobbies are mostly all wrapped up with those two occupations, but I also dig outdoorsy non-organized-sport stuff like hiking and climbing and paddling.

Schleswig Holstein flags from Victorian Steel
Flags available on the website.
27 flags for the army of Holstein, these are really good print quality and great value for money, so far over £300 has been raised towards Combat Stress, if it was not for the flags this money would never of been raised so a big thank you for the donations to all who have contributed in buying the flags.
The army of Holstein carried flags of black, red and gold, horizontal and vertical with the black being nearest to the staff, they also carried the blue white and red flag with the coat of arms in the center, a number of mottos were written on these colours and in german writtings, these are also represented on the colours.
More to follow over the coming weeks, these will be the full army of Denmark including the cavalry and reserves, plus many colourful Prussian flags which could be used from the Napoleonic wars to the Franco-Prussian war.
