Freebooter's Fate

Hello to everyone on this cold Saturday. I hope you're having a good day. I'm cracking nuts... for that fruitcake I've been telling you all about all week. They don't use the phrase, "nutty as a fruitcake" for nothing, you know. I hope you have your own projects you're working on, be they gaming-related, culinary-related, or just whatever else you feel like doing.

What I feel like doing at the moment, though, is taking a small break from making small breaks (these are the jokes, people!) and share with you the reviews I've come across in the past week.

Today's articles feature: Black Hat, Ships, Above and Below, Traders of Osaka, The Bloody Inn, Hangtown, Rum & Bones, The World of Smog, Avarium Academy, The Builders: Antiquity, T.I.M.E. Stories, Bang! The Dice Game, Mysterium, Fury of Dracula, Pandemic Legacy, Between Two Cities, El Grandulon for Freebooters Fate, Opel Blitz by Rubicon Models, Star Wars Armada Wave 2, DreadBall Xtreme, and Pathfinder Battles: Red Dragon Evolution Set.

Freebooter Miniatures will be making their way to Salute in just over a week and they'll be bringing a load of new booty with them. They have a quartet of new Freebooter's Fate minis in the form of Jamon Borodino, Kasper, Piccina, and Lilith. They'll also be giving people a chance to try out their new Freebooter's Fate Battles combat system. It's designed to make it so you can play with more figures on the board, but still play quick as though you were doing a smaller skirmish.

From the announcement:
Freebooter Miniatures hits the waves with the release of their new models for Freebooter's Fate for this month.

From the release:

Ahoy there, sea urchin collectors!

The sun is shining high in the sky, fans of football and tennis are having a blast these days, but we're not forgetting those who prefer playing with miniatures to physical violence against ball-shaped objects.

So here are the two new releases for this month:

"Incantenebra":/en/catalog/3057 is the mystic huntress of the Brotherhood. Her Ferracero weapons are the weapon of choice against mystics and characters possessed by loas. She is also the only specialist capable of performing the legendary shadow run.

"Goblin Thugs":/en/catalog/3055 can take and dish out more damage than other Goblin deckhands, but they lack gimmicks like pistols and shields - which for some is another advantage. Fielded as honour guard alongside "Gront":/en/catalog/2823 they can even receive the "tough" trait rather than just look the part.

Both products are available now!

Freebooter Miniatures has their February releases for Freebooter's Fate available over in their webshop.

From the release:

We sure are setting every last scrap of canvas in February.

Seven – yes, you have read that correctly, like the number of seas – seven new releases to fling aside that winter gloom and hint at the forthcoming spring.
Freebooter Miniatures has their November releases for Freebooter's Fate up and available over in their webshop, matey.

From the release:

This month, we are proud to present a new limited edition miniature. Blanche Pascal, the Pirate Queen, seen here having a well-deserved mug of rum (apparently not her first one) on her hard-won hoard of booty.

Also new this month are the second set of Sansâmes, to give you more variants for your soulless hordes.

Freebooter Miniatures has their 10 year anniversary Freebooter's Legends miniatures going out of print at the end of the month.
If you want to get yours, better hurry.

From the announcement:

Just in case you forgot: The ten year anniversary miniatures, the Freebooter’s Fate Legends, will only be available until the end of October/early November in our store. They will leave our range after that point. For good. The melting pot has been mentioned in connection with any potentially remaining stock.

Which products will leave the range?
FML00 Legends Box
FML07 Virgo Despiedad
FML08 Chassa
FML09 Papa Houngan

The last time on which these four products will be for sale from us is at CRISIS in Antwerp, Belgium on 2 November 2013.

So if you want to get your greedy mitts on any of these gorgeous figures, order now or see us at Crisis. It will be too late after that. We really mean this.

Freebooter Miniatures is showing off the greens of the minis that they'll be releasing at Essen Spiel next week, along with a tease of a new, exclusive model they'll have at the show.

From the preview:

Surprise – our new releases for SPIEL!!!

Ahoy there, friends of the freshly-emptied mug of rum

As promised, our anniversary year ends with a big bang – a new starter box for the East-Leoneran Trading Company.
Freebooter Miniatures is showing off the latest releases for Freebooter's Fate over on their website.
Yarr, matey!

From the release:

Ahoy there,
September is “mercenary month” so that everybody can get their share of the new loot:

The rules for Crazy Perez were designed by Christine Leonhardt and Gregor Lengsfeld. This crazy lass goes wherever she wants, which may occasionally upset the player supposedly controlling her, but she does carry a bomb and packs a hefty punch in close combat. She will fight for any crew (“Bombs for everyone!”).

Theresa is sort of the good witch of Freebooter’s Fate. She can invoke benevolent loas and will fight for any crew except for the Cult. She will also stay well clear of any Cazadores of the Imperial Armada – for obvious reasons. With her help, every crew can now use the new loa invocation rules. Did we mention that this nice old^H^H^H, I mean: mature lady also comes with a one-shot gun at a very reasonable rate?

Both characters are available now!

Freebooter Miniatures is showing off their August releases for Freebooter's Fate over in their webshop.

From the announcement:

Ahoy there!

Well, our holiday is over and so we’re back to business as usual again. Which means that we have two new releases for you in August:

The rules for Captain Dèzette stem from the creativity of Dorothea Zugberg and Rüdiger Warnke. Dezètte is a bit of an “everybody’s darling” in the world of Freebooter’s Fate. She can be used as the leader of a Pirate crew or as a mercenary in all other crews. If she leads her own Pirate crew, she can add one specialist or deckhand from other crews instead of a mercenary.

Eugen is the man in charge when it comes to using Sansamès in Cult crews. Not only does he allow you to field many of the turnipheads, he also helps you to control them more effectively. In addition, he adds some much-needed firepower to Cult crews.

Do you like pirates?
Of course you do! You're reading this page, so you're a gamer and gamers like pirates!
Well, in today's TGN Review, we've got a pirate skirmish game: Freebooter's Fate, made by Freebooter Miniatures (seems appropriate).

Arrr me harteys! Set sail and let's dive into another review...
Read on and ye might even get some loot at the end.
Freebooter Miniatures put up another pair of previews for Freebooter's Fate.

From the preview:

Indiegogo Update: Pelada and Antoinette

Another one bites the dust! After last weeks presentation of El Almirantes standard bearer Mozo, we now introduce to you Pelada, which will be added to Captain-Perk El Almirantes as an additional character on the same base. Obviously Pelada will reload her commanders’ pistols, but Pelada is part of a legend, so you can expect a little bit more of her.

In addition we bring you the missing base design of Antoinette.

Freebooter Miniatures has a new model they're showing off on their website: Ixchelcoatl (no, I have NO idea how to pronounce that) and her winged serpent friend.

From the website:

Ahoy there me hearties

Even though we are fully into pre-christmas business, Werner took the time to finish another model for the anniversary campaign.

So here is Ixchelcoatl, High Priestess of the Amazons (yes, she can afford a real snake Wink ) and her companion, the Winged Serpent! The version shown is the Pirate-Perk version without any stretch goal bits.

Freebooter Miniatures released a little bit of everything this month for Freebooter's Fate. There's an army case, some terrain and a new pirate.

From the update:

The Freebooter figure case is available! As are Barco and the Palm Tree!

We hope that December is going to be a bit more relaxed. Half our crew is currently in sick berth and so we have trouble putting up the right bits of sail at the right time and so we’re looking for a nice little place to drop anchor. Although, my personal suspicion is that the crew just a bit too much rum and is just dozing off its hangover!

A joyful advent to all of you!
Werner und the Freebooter Miniatures team

The first Freebooter figure case is finally here! Some of you had been able to get a good look at (and possibly even your greedy little mitts on) it at Spiel earlier this year. I have to say it turned out real nifty. Many thanks to Sven and the Feldherr UG crew for the smooth co-operation.

The feared and notorious pirate captain Barco Malcaduco completes the pirate crew. For now!

Plus we have added a nice big Palm Tree to the store for all you carftsy people out there.

All of the above are available as of right now.

Freebooter Miniatures is in their final week on Indiegogo. They've made it well past their funding goal, but there's always more that can be added on.

From the update:

We are now in the final week of our 10-year anniversary Indiegogo project and so we thought it was time to make some changes for the final stretch.

First of all, we have added a new perk. It is a well-known fact that we at Freebooter Miniatures love us some shiny metally goodness. So we thought about whether there was any way of making the miniatures even shinier and, um, more metally. And we have found one. The result is a version of the Freebooter goblin captain cast in solid fine silver (935) for the serious collector. Not just silver-plated: solid silver. They are engraved with their individual number and highly limited, so make sure you get your single-digit one now.

Moreover, we have reworked the perks with the painted miniature, because we appear to have set the pledge amounts too high the first time round. These perks now contain a single miniature, painted either by Rafael Urbanski or Jennifer Haley. Jennifer has also kindly agreed to paint any miniature from the Indiegogo campaign, including, if you want, any additional modifications from stretchgoals achieved at campaign end (excluding separate sidekick characters on separate bases).

So, if you haven’t seen it yet, go to the campaign and have a look around. Have we mentioned that most of these miniatures are highly limited? Pledge now and save yourself the agony of missing out.

Freebooter Miniatures posts up a progress report on their Indiegogo campaign.

From the campaign:

The campaign has progressed to just short of its halfway point and so it is time to look back and sum up what we have achieved so far.
Freebooter Miniatures has updated their Freebooter's Fate Legends Indiegogo campaign.

From the update:

Now that we’re back from Spiel, we finally have a few spare minutes in which to update you on the progress of our Indiegogo campaign.

Stuff has most definitely been happening since its launch. Not only did we achieve the minimum funding within 28 hours, we have by now made the first six stretchgoals and are just short of achieving no. 7.

This means that you can now obtain the successor to our recently discontinued Goblin Captain and the main pledge level of Captain has now grown to include 8 miniatures instead of the initial 6 plus upgraded arms, alternative heads and a skeletal powder monkey companion for the mysterious pirate.

Just a few more pledges and we will have achieved the next stretchgoal – a mercenary character who will allow you to field an all-mercenary crew.

So go on, have another look if you haven’t pledged already or if you have and are not completely averse to the thought of upgrading. One limited perk has already sold out, you know.

Freebooter Miniatures is ten years old (*sniffle* they grow up so fast!) and in celebration, they've launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund a special line of Freebooter's Fate Legends miniatures. They've already met their goal, so it's stretch goals from here on out.

From the update:

We’ve been in business for ten years now! Arrr! and so forth.

What better way for a miniatures company to celebrate such an occasion than to release a special limited edition miniature set? Exactly. So that’s what we did. And, because we are in a celebratory mood, postage is free. Worldwide.

We called it Freebooter’s Fate Legends, because that’s what they are. Characters who have left their mark on the world of Freebooter’s Fate in their own special way. And yes, these characters do come with rules and cards for Freebooter’s Fate, so they can be used in your games as well.

Because we had so many ideas for gnarly characters and options, we decided to set up a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, so people could decide exactly how much they wanted to get involved. You find the campaign at

Most of the miniatures will only be available on Indiegogo, but the basic set will also continue to be sold – albeit at a higher price – throughout our anniversary year, i.e. until October next year.
Frontline Gamer gives you another Freebooter's Fate model review with Casimeere Flynn.
I hear tales that it was sculpted in Frontline's own image.

From the Casanova:

Frontline Gamer reviews the namby pamby Casimeere Flynn from Freebooter's Fate.

Frontline Gamer didn't have to dress up as any sort of animal or hide in any dumpsters to bring you this review of Miedo a Morir from Freebooter's Fate... they just like doing that sort of thing.

From the review:

Yeah so this is an older miniature from the Freebooter's Fate, but it's one of the best. So I think it deserves being given a little bit more of the spotlight.

Freebooter Miniatures is showing off the green for their next Freebooter's Fate release as well as a teaser for Spiel Essen.

From the update:

Spiel Essen is almost upon us but we will be squeezing in another regular just before then anyway. El Charro and Pujamen are the latest addition to the Goblin crew in Freebooter’s Fate, their daring acrobatics a useful addition to the pointy ears’ arsenal on the battlefield. The blister contains three figures: both characters individually and as piggy-backed double act. They will become available sometime next week.

Speaking of Spiel Essen, we have also posted another teaser picture on our website. Apart from yet more Freebooter miniature loveliness, can you tell what it is yet?

Freebooter Miniatures has a preview teaser up for a special mini they're going to have available at the Spiel Essen convention.

From the announcement:

To all of you who intend to go to Spiel Essen this year, here is a first brief glimpse of what we will be presenting:
The biggest one goes first: We will have beta test packages for the new crew ready for sale. Yes, not only can you be among the first to get your greedy mitts on the new crew, if you send us your feedback in time, we may not just read it but even take it into account for the final version. :)

PLUS we will have exclusive prereleases of miniatures for existing crews, including alternative deckhands for Pirates and Amazons.

PLUS a new limited miniature, which can be used in Freebooter’s Fate. One model will be given away for free each day, but only to a person with vast maritime knowledge. Well, vast-ish. Or a lucky chancer who’s good at guessing. ;)

PLUS details of an upcoming special project to celebrate our ten year anniversary.

Freebooter Miniatures gives us a look at their September releases for Freebooter's Fate.

From the preview:

Our new releases for September could not be more different from each other.

On the one hand there is grace, beauty and the seductive touch of the mysterious – and on the other hand there is Adombra.

Just kidding. We’re talking about Adombra (ASS 014), of course. Unless you really, really like small, furry rodents. Adombra provides the Brotherhood with a desperately needed specialist for ranged attacks. Her crossbow quarrels can strike down the Brotherhood’s foes swiftly and silently where the traditional daggers just cannot reach.

The other part of the releases consists of a dirty pack of sometimes cute, sometimes nasty little rats (ZUB 006). These vermin creatures can be used as counters for the Rat Hunt scenario or to beef up Fidanzata’s rat swarms or to bring some beauty to your bases and terrain. Well, to bring rats to it, anyway. There are 14 different rat designs and 21 randomly assorted little rodent bodies will be included in the blister pack – the ideal number for going hunting for rats in October.

Both products are scheduled to be released in week 37.

Freebooter's Fate has some new releases for August. They've got ex-captain Jack and new ammo counters.
Stay tuned to TGN for a review of Freebooter's Fate, coming soon.

From the update:

He is a little dizzy and constantly babbles on about the good old times back in the days when he were a lad and could walk upright and had all his own teeth and people had proper respect and stuff. Not like the young’uns these days. He is also well-known for switching sides in the heat of battle, usually when he gets hit in the head too hard. Nonetheless, Ex-captain Jack PIR 017 is a useful and cheap (only 30 dubloons hire fee, and that’s with two crutches and the hat) reinforcement for every pirate crew. Well, cheap, definitely. And entertaining.

The second new release is useful for almost every player and a fan’s favourite, which we have been asked to do lots of times in the past. Well, here they are at last: the Ammo counters ZUB 007! Nobody say we don’t listen to our customers. The counters are also available individually from the Freebooter Miniatures webshop.

Frontline Gamer has a review up of a pair of models from Freebooter's Fate: Momma Galina and Chulo Bolu. Check it out and be an informed gamer!

From them to you:

I suppose I could have reviewed these two miniatures separately, but the truth is they clearly belong together. If you haven't read the back story behind this Goblin pirate duo I'll briefly fill you in. There's not really too much to tell, Chulo was a slave to a particularly smart and crafty tradesmen, who taught Chulo a thing or two. So he's a better educated crafty Goblin than most. He fancies himself as a bit of a rebel leader, wanting to lead his green brothers and sisters in glorious revolution... except he's a bit of a weedy git and a totally spoiled brat who throws temper tantrums. In short he's not hard enough to be leader! That is where his mommy steps in, Momma Galina is hard enough to be leader, but like most smitten mothers who spoil their sons rotten, they want them to be the leaders, and they're willing to clip anyone round the ear who says otherwise. So put simply Chulo is in charge because if you say otherwise his mommy comes and gets you. The stories behind the two of them are genuinely humourous. So that's there background and why I just feel like I had to review them together. I mean I just don't think Chulo would leave home without his mommy in tow.

Freebooter Miniatures is finally making the Freebooter's Fate equipment cards they've been promising for so long. Aren't you happy about that?

From the release:

Freebooter's Fate Players. Do you get annoyed about still having change left once you’ve hired your crew? Don’t you just hate those useless, leftover coins? Never enough for an additional deckhand, are they? Well. Remember those equipment cards we mentioned in the Basic Rulebook and which quite a few of you kept pestering us about? They’re here! Arr! The ideal way of turning every last scrap of gold into fighting power on the battlefield. Innovative inventions, cunning curiosities, nasty, um, knickknacks and much more, at prices to suit every pouch or pocket. And because we were on a roll, we added a few new event cards as well.

After exclusive prereleases at Salute and RPC, the cards will be available from week 19 of 2012 onwards, both at our Freebooter Miniatures onlineshop and from our trade partners.

Contains 42 equipment cards, 6 new event cards and some rules for using them.
