As good as any game developer and designer might be, their game won't end up working without some good playtesting of it. Rules might look good on paper, but it's only once you've got a bunch of eyes reading them and hands trying them out that you'll see whether they really work or not. Dog Might Games wants their games to work, and as such, they're putting a call out for playtesters.
From the announcement:
Dog Might Games is looking for board game lovers who would like to help playtesting our newest game! We've got an active and fun playtesting community and digital Table Top Simulator version so you don't even have to print out anything. Come join in on the fun and earn cool Dog Might Gear by emailing lindsey@dogmight.com for more details!

Saturdaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Woo! My favorite day of the week, as I can just sit back, relax, and do some gaming. Nevermind that this week I'm vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning countertops in the den. That's important, too. So, while I try and figure out just how much dust a single lamp can acquire, let's get you those reviews you so desperately desire.

In this video I will teach you how to play Tiny Epic Quest including: Components, setup, the four phases of a round, and scoring. I will also give you my thoughts and opinions on the game, and would love to hear yours.
theMCGuiRE review takes a look at Way of The Panda - a new board game from Pendragon and CMON. In this title you are fighting off ninjas and empire building! this game offers flavors of worker placement and area control - with a very nice balance of both working together. If you are into those gaming styles and Panda's - you have found your game!
theMCGuiRE review takes a look at Dogmight Games brand new SENTINEL - a board gamer's chest delight! Team, this is an awesome product and I highly recommend it. It's built to last and comes in a variety of options, woods and customization's! You can change the top, bottom, wood, and even have an engraving put on top. Both the quality and functionality is there with this product and every gamer deserves to have one of these!
Head, Shoulders knees, and toes… Anatomy Fluxx gets a LEG up on other editions by adding a few new rules, making the game a little less cutTHROAT by putting a priority on BRAIN power! Fast paced and every changing, gameschoolers, budding biologists, and Fluxx fans will enjoy this new twist on the classic game.
Anatomy Fluxx is a hand management and set collection game for 2-6 players. Games can last from 10-30 minutes. Anatomy Fluxx is best at 4-5 players.
In Head of Mousehold, players will play cards to the mouse traps laid out in the center of the table. Each trap has one or more cheese tokens worth anywhere from 2-4 points.
At the beginning of each round, the relative speed of each mouse is determined randomly. A column will be created next to the traps showing how the various colored mice stack up speed-wise. Each player receives a deck of cards depicting 5 different colored mice and selects three cards to play each round.
This second edition of Robinson Crusoe’s rulebook was overhauled by Gaming Rule’s Paul Grogan. He went through years of rules questions to compile a 40 page rulebook that should guide players through the gameplay. I’ll be giving you a brief overview of how the game is played here, but I’d recommend downloading a PDF of the rules should you want the full details.
The concept in Who Should We Eat? revolves around the players acting as the remaining people on a deserted island after some catastrophe. The group has decided to build a raft and the pressure is on because there’s not enough food. The players need to finish the raft to escape the island before enough players die, become ghosts, and spoil the plans of the survivors.
The gameplay in Among the Stars is fairly easy to learn. Each player is building out their own space station over the course of 4 rounds. Each turn, players will choose a card from their hand to either play (costing you credits), discard for 3 credits, or turn into a reactor (some cards require energy as a second form of currency). The cards come in 5 different categories and each have a special ability. Cards will also earn you victory points, either scoring immediately or at the end of the game.
Thunderstone Quest is a deck-building game of fantasy adventure published by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG). This is the latest in the line of Thunderstone deck-building games originally created by Mike Elliott in 2009. Whereas older Thunderstone games served as standalone sets with a loose story, Thunderstone Quest adds a campaign mode. Stalwart adventurers progressively unlock new cards, dungeon setups, items, spells, and heroes as they unravel the story of the Stormlands.
In this review, I’ll be delving into the the “Champion” edition of the game, which comes with a premium box, and two more quests than the regular edition.
Days of Wonder have ripped out the lengthy routes and longest train bonuses. They’ve trimmed down the footprint by providing fewer taxis, removing the scoring track from around the edge of the board, and reducing the board size dramatically. They’ve even excised an entire player (lowering the max player count from 5 to 4). All of this results in a game which fits in a box smaller than a sheet of paper.
The quacks are getting ready for the local festival, which means they are brewing their best potions. But the people of Quedlinburg aren’t the most discerning, and they care more about quantity than quality–as long as a potion fills the bottle, there’s less concern about whether it works. They like the appearance of a bargain, and you like the relief of not having to worry about effectiveness.
Put on your apothecary’s cap, drag out your best ingredients (and even some rat’s tails, if you need them), and strive to be the wealthiest quack in all of Quedlinburg.
Junk Orbit is a pick up and deliver game with a thematic twist: Every time you fling junk in one direction, your spaceship moves an equal amount in the opposite direction. If you remember your physics from school, Newton’s Third Law of Motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So if your spaceship exerts energy to fling junk in one direction, energy is also exerted to fling your spaceship an equal distance in the opposite direction. This turns pick up and deliver into a bigger challenge as you have to plan your movements both “forward” and “backward.”
In Nine Worlds you will be battling against the other denizens of Norse mythology's multiverse, sending your troops between worlds in an attempt to control as many of the realms as possible. You will achieve this by spending a number of action points to move your troops, and your avatar, around the board. It's all very abstract, as in reality you are shuffling coloured beads around a board.
Nimble is a game that will present you with neither interesting nor agonising choices. It will not test your resolve, or your ability to read a bluff in a friend's face. It will—as the name may hint at—test your reactions, your nimbleness if you will.
The rules and gameplay are very simple; all you have to do is draw a card from the top of your player deck, briefly place it on your discard pile and then place it on one of the central piles, where you will match the frame of your card to the circle of one of the central cards.
Being a British wargamer, I have often thought that I should take more interest in the wars that have shaped the island on which I live – let’s face it, there are numerous ones to choose from.
The English Civil War has always seemed a challenging period of warfare – tactics were evolving with the introduction of large numbers of troops armed with firearms. However, it’s not a period of history I really studied very deeply, so in gaming terms I am really after a set of rules that captures the essence of warfare in the period, without becoming bogged down in the detail.
For King And Parliament seem to be that set of rules.

June is Pride Month. And we here at TGN certainly want to make everyone feel welcome into the gaming fold. Dog Might Games feels the same way, and is celebrating with a special raffle for pieces that have rainbow staining. You can buy tickets for your chance to win, with all proceeds going to The Trevor Project charity.
From the announcement (note: all references to "this post" mean the post on Dog Might's Facebook page):
Happy Pride, everyone!!
We are finally ready to unveil a special charity event we really wanted to do this month: our Rainbow Raid Raffle! For $1, you can buy a ticket to enter to win one of three rainbow-stained products from us. You can buy as many tickets as you want. 100% of the proceeds from those ticket sales will be going to The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people ages 13-24.
If you can, *please* share this post so we can get the word out for this cause (and give everybody a chance at some amazing, kick ass, proud rainbow gaming gear!).
In the past, we've made our rainbow stain available very exclusively on the occasional Kickstarter project. It's not an easy stain to accomplish! We thought, though, we should put this special stain to another use - by offering it exclusively during Pride. If you order a product with this stain, a portion of those proceeds will go to The Trevor Project as well.

Wow, Wednesday already? This week's just rolling by. Not that I mind that, of course. I've got some D&D coming up this weekend, so you know that I'm stoked. So, here's to hoping that the rest of the week jogs by quickly, too. But if we're gonna be jogging, we're gonna be burning up energy. If we're gonna be burning up energy, we need to replace it. If we're gonna replace it, we should nosh on some bite-sized gaming stories.

The next item of our Salute releases to hit the website are our Great War Boy Scouts. Although part of our Belgian range (one figure is based specifically on a WWI photograph of a Belgian scout) the similarity in the uniforms would allow them to be used in other countries and periods.
Sculpted by Martin Baker, the three figures depict scouts of different ages (and heights) – the smallest and youngest has his knapsack on his back ready for a picnic ! Another has a despatch bag to carry messages to the front, while the oldest has a Lee-Enfield rifle and bandoliers ready to face the Hun.
All are wearing the traditional uniform of shorts, long socks and ‘lemon-squeezer’ campaign hat.
PicoArmor (Assault Publishing's exclusive North American distributor) is pleased to announce that the SitV Terran miniatures have arrived and are now in stock. This faction is known as the Esh-Aven Protectorate (E-AP).

Board Buddies was born out of a desire to create a free and interactive web app for iOS and Anrdoid that would allow users to host and join in on board gaming events in their community. As avid board game lovers, we always found it a challenge to find local people playing our favorite board games, or that wanted to try new ones that interested us. With the Board Buddies app, you’ll be able to search for upcoming board game events in your city, create your own event with a game of your choosing, or ask to join an ongoing game event and become a regular player in their crew.
Our team can't make this dream a reality without your help. If you love board games as much as we do and want to become a buddy, please pledge your support so we can bring this project to life.

I've got my 80s playlist going on Pandora here today. Oingo Boingo. The Police. Genesis. It's all good stuff. And a perfectly fitting soundtrack for this story. Dog Might Games has launched their Kickstarter campaign for Countdown: Action Edition. It's a game that brings all the thrill of 80s action movies and puts you right at the center of it. It's a tense hostage negotiation, and only you and the other players can decide on what happens before the credits roll.
From the campaign:
Countdown: Action Edition is a hidden role game where players try to navigate a hostage situation happening in a 1980's action movie.
One player takes on the role of the Action Hero, while the other players are Hostages or Villains. The Action Hero will need to determine which players are the real Hostages and which are the Villains impersonating them.
Decide quickly though, because no one knows when the Villains' Bomb will go off!
The campaign is getting really close to their goal with still 21 days left to go.

Countdown: Action Edition is coming soon from Dog Might Games. It brings all the action and excitement from 80s movies to your tabletop. And what do many 80s action movies have in common? A hostage situation. In this preview, they take a look at the Hostage role in the game (yes, you can possibly be a hostage in the game), to let you know that while you may be tied up, you're far from helpless.
From the post:
Hostages are what make a hostage situation… well… a hostage situation. Without these innocent (or sometimes not so innocent) members of society, we wouldn’t have many of the great movie scenes that we do. These are the unsung heroes of all action films and today, they will finally get the attention they deserve in this week’s Countdown: Action Edition article.
In every Countdown: Action Edition game, the majority of players will be Hostage Characters, so it’s important to understand how they work and how crucial their actions can be. While Hostages may seem like unlucky pedestrians just thrown into the mix, they arguably have the greatest impact in a game of Countdown. Each Hostage Character has vital information that they can provide to the Action Hero to help identify Villains. Each Hostage also has an Action Scene that can be used to gain more info or help buy the Action Hero some more time. During a game of Countdown, Hostages need to work together as a group to gain freedom and escape a great big explodey death.

It's Saturday. Usually, that would mean gaming. But Friday meant gaming for me, as a friend came over after work and we played some Guild Ball, Bunny Kingdom, and Apotheca. Great way to spend a Friday. So, what am I up to Saturday? Well, I'm in the CMON Offices, helping pack orders for the holiday sale. Yeah, seems people loved those deep cuts. And since I feel partially responsible (as the one they tasked with actually changing the prices on all those things), I felt it only right to help pack everything up. But while I get orders together, I know you're here for a heaping helping of reviews. Heaping helping because we didn't have a Roundup last week, due to the holiday.
So, this week we've got: Near and Far, Queendomino, The Oregon Trail: Hunt for Food, Dog Might Games Traveler Dice Tower, Campy Creatures, Camel Up, A Game of Thrones Card Game, Colt Express, Truth Bombs, Ex Libris, Star Trek: 5-Year Mission, Slide Blast, Happy Salmon, DownForce, Smash Up iOS, Professor Evil and the Citadel of Time, Ink Monsters, The Quest for El Dorado, Reef Route, Crabs, Werewords, Fog of Love, Museum Heist, Crosstalk, Potato Pirates, Tulip bubble, The Chameleon, Ulm, Asset Drop Subscription Box, Tortuga 1667, Dwar7s Fall, The Expanse, Tokyo Highway, and Ulock!
theMCGuiRE review takes a look at The Oregon Trail Hunt for Food the card game. This is an expansion based off The Oregon Trail card game released last year and overly popular Target store purchase. Both of these are exclusive to Target and I do recommend picking them up (if you can find them). Each game has a different feel and that is what I like best about this expansion. It offers another type of experience that can be enjoyed as a stand alone or add-in to the original.
theMCGuiRE review takes a look at the new DOG MIGHT Traveler Dice Tower. This thing is pretty cool and hold up to 20 dice while allowing for 7 dive to be rolled all at once. It offers a back carving in the wood and a lazer engraved image in the front. You can choose from up to 20 different different woods/finishes and its on kickstarter doing very well right now! It has super small form factor for a dice tower and is a great add on to the Component Collector if you already have that.
In this video I will teach you how to play including: Setup, the different phases of the game and how they work, player turns, and final scoring. I will also give you my thoughts and opinions on the game, and would love to hear yours.
Campy Creatures is a love letter to the 1950’s monster movies played out as a deduction card game. You’ll be playing as a mad scientist on his devilish mission to collect mere mortals for your zany experiments. Of course, you’re not going to put yourself in danger, so you'll instead send one of nine different monsters to capture innocent engineers, teenagers and archaeologists.
Camel Up is a fun, fast paced racing game for the whole family. It has won numerous awards since it’s release in 2014; blending simple to understand gameplay with the perfect mix of strategy and luck, all rolled into the unique theme of camel racing.
Players control a set of camels racing around a track in the desert with coloured dice, betting on the camels as they go. Each camel has its own dice of the same colour that controls how many spaces forward it moves each time it is rolled. There are rewards for predicting the winner of each leg and the overall winner and loser of the entire race, with the person who has collected the most prize money at the end of the race becoming the winner.
A Game of Thrones is an advanced strategy game for 3-6 players designed by Christian T Peterson, the creator of the legendary Twilight Imperium and founder of Fantasy Flight Games.
The game is set on the island of Westeros, where each player takes on the role of one of the six Great Houses who inhabit the island at the start of the story. Over the course of ten game rounds, each player will attempt to gain control of the most castles and strongholds to cement their claim as holder of The Iron Throne, and subsequently ruler of Westeros.
Hold on to yer’ hats and climb aboard the Colt Express for a rootin’ tootin’ robbery ride and the chance to bag some serious loot. Colt Express is a turn-based family board game that puts you in the shoes of a Wild West Bandit looking to rob a train. Using cards from your hand, you take it in turns perform actions that will help you pilfer the most loot before your rival bandits get there first.
The game is designed for 2-6 players and features not only one of the best “boards” I have played on but also some of the most genuinely fun moments in my board-gaming career. The game table is comprised of a locomotive at the front of the train and then train carriages equal to the number of the players in the game, plus one.
A great party game for me involves learning some embarrassing truths about my friends and being able to taunt them for it, in a friendly well-meaning way of course. I got my hands on Big Potato games’ new party game ‘Truth Bombs’ and assembled the Playopolis team for a few games this week.
Ex Libris is a game about being a librarian, which at first may seem a bit monotonous, but given your library is set in a fictional town, where gnomes, goblins and mummies reside it is anything but dull. Add in one of the most anal library inspectors you will ever meet and hundreds of different books, and you have something a bit special.
As a self-confessed bookaholic I was excited to get my hands on a copy of Ex Libris to play and review. Published by Renegade Game Studios and designed by Adam P. McIver, Ex Libris was first debuted at the 2017 GenCon and generated a great deal of hype.
Games that are attached to a well know Intellectual Properties can be a bit hit and miss. What you tend to find is that many of these games rely heavily on the IP to drive sales (I’m looking at you, every TV/film version of monopoly) because the core gameplay isn’t all that great or different. Occasionally though, a games mechanics and its theme go together like bread and butter, with each element complimenting the other and providing a greater experience for players as a result. Is Star Trek: 5-Year Mission a shameless money grab or can it boldly go where no man has gone before?
After a little bit of time off, we are back with another edition of Parental Guidance. If you haven’t read any of our past articles, the goal of this series is to help you find games to play with your family and friends outside of the usual gateway games (which you are already probably sick of). Once again we are going to take a look at three board games I chose to play with my parents during our latest gaming session. For these reviews, I’ll provide a quick summary of the game, followed by why I thought it would be a good choice for my non-gamer parents. My mother will then comment on what she thought of the game.
On one side of the coin, Near and Far is a game about equipping an adventuring party by visiting various buildings in town. On the other side, players make choices about which locations outside of town to visit and, possibly, have adventures requiring heroic choices. The results of these and the placement of camps deliver journey points, the victory currency of the game.
The gameplay contained in Smash Up relies on a multitude of half-decks of cards, each with a theme (pirates, aliens, zombies, wizards, etc…).Each player makes a deck of cards from two different themes. The goal is for a player to take control of bases, which are worth a varying number of points, and the player with the most strength at the base when the threshold is reached, wins it. On a turn, a player can play 1 minion card to a base and 1 action card. Usually, players are trying to play cards with abilities to give them higher strength, play more minions, or disrupt other players. Once a player manages to get 15 points from winning bases, the game is over and highest points wins.
The goal in Professor Evil is to rescue 4 treasures before the Professor can lock enough away. Each player will get to control a unique character, each of which specializes in a specific area of the game (movement, locks, etc…). Once the board is seeded with switches and treasures, you are ready to begin.
Ink Monsters is played over a series of rounds. Each round, a 12-card circular layout of monster cards is placed on the table with the pen card above one of the monsters. Every player also has a hand of 3 action cards.
Every turn, players may play an action card to manipulate the movement of the pen card and draw a replacement. Then, they MUST take the card located under the pen. Once they do this, the pen moves to the next monster.
One of the most common ways people sum up a game (and indeed the same way Board Game Quest does it) is to mention the primary mechanisms in a game. For example, a press-your-luck, dice rolling game might immediately conjure visions of Yahtzee and other derivative games. Unfortunately, this can also have the effect of turning noses in the air when a particular mechanism is mentioned.
This deserves mentioning because the game reviewed here has two of the mechanisms some gamers love to hate. The Quest for El Dorado is a deck building race game set in the wilds of a South American jungle. Two to four players will be acquiring cards representing useful resources or personalities and use them to navigate the various terrain types.
There are some games that kids somehow become familiar with by the time they are about three years old. Tag, and all of its varieties, is one of those. At my son’s preschool they play a somewhat modified game of tag called Sharks & Minnows, which is basically tag where you try to be the last minnow standing.
Reef Route might as well be Sharks & Minnows: The Board Game. It plays 2-4 players, aged 5 and up, in about 15 minutes.
Crabs is a hand management card game for three to five players. Players are catching, raising, and binding crabs to fulfill contracts and get valuable crabs. The player with the most points after the points threshold is met wins.
Werewords is a social deduction guessing game for four to ten players. Players are members of a village on either the villager team or the werewolf team, trying to either guess the magic word or prevent it from being guessed, respectively. The team that reaches their goal without being discovered by the other team is the winner.
To begin, mix together the mayor card, a werewolf card, and the seer card, plus villager cards to equal the number of players +1, then deal one card to each player, placing one card face-down in the center of the table. The player who receives the mayor card receives the Yes/No, Maybe, So Close, and Correct tokens, takes the face-down role from the center of the table, and starts the app.
Fog of Love is a card-based “storytelling” game that attempts to replicate the experience of falling in (and sometimes out of) love with a partner. There are the usual butterflies of excitement at first, followed by the drama later. (Dealing with the in-laws, anyone?) I’m not going to try to explain every rule and phase of the game. It’s best understood as more of a story. The mechanics support the story, but it’s easier to wrap your head around it if you see what the game is trying to achieve.
Your goal is to satisfy your character’s destiny. You begin the game with the same number and type of destinies in hand as your partner. During the game you will gradually secretly discard destinies until you have only one left. This will be the one you must achieve at the finale in order to win. (More on that in a minute.)
The goal of Museum Heist is to claim 3 artifacts. Each round, a group of 7 thieves pursues 1 piece of artwork, but only one player will be able to claim it.
At the start of a round, each player secretly chooses one of the 7 thieves, placing a corresponding card facedown in front of them. No one knows who you chose, and you don’t know who others chose, and it’s entirely possible two or more players chose the same thief.
CrossTalk is the party game of subtle conversation in which two teams race to guess secret keywords. Each round, teams select a clue-giver, and those clue-givers are given knowledge of the same secret keyword. The goal of the clue-givers is to help their teammates guess this keyword before the other team.
Roast, mash, or fry your opponents and send them down to Davy Jones’ locker — but before you can reign terror on the high seas, you have to first master the art of potato war. Use programming concepts such as functions, loops, and conditionals to fortify your attacks. If that’s not enough, you could just loot and hijack your way to victory by saving Potato King from the deadlock of doom.
When in need, summon the Kraken to your aid and deny everything…
In 1637, the tulip craze fuelled one of the first speculative investment bubbles. Coveted tulip varieties led to skyrocketing prices with tulip bulbs costing more than houses in Amsterdam. Then just as suddenly as it started, the bubble burst when investors could no longer afford even the cheapest bulbs, leaving economic turmoil.
In Tulip Bubble, players buy and sell on a fluctuating market, trying to earn the most guilders. The game flow includes a preparation phase, buying phase, and selling phase, with these phases recurring until the bubble collapses or someone manages to outwit the markets by purchasing a black tulip for 120 guilders before that collapse occurs.
Ulm is at its heyday. The construction of the Ulm cathedral has not yet been completed, but the city is already wealthy and prestigious. In Ulm, players try to expand their spheres of influence and to make optimal use of the hustle and bustle on the marketplace around the cathedral.
I recently ran a news item about a brand new subscription box service – Asset Drop. Andy from Asset Drop very kindly offered me the November box to review – here are my thoughts…
I must admit, I did rather enjoy The Curse of the Black Pearl – Captain Jack running around the Caribbean drunk and sunburned was an entertaining film that refreshed the way we looked at pirates. Even if it was responsible for a million poor attempts at dreadlocks from Hallowe’en partygoers from then on.
I say refreshed – we’ve always loved pirates and it seems that Façade Games agrees as their most recent game, Tortuga 1667, is centred around the loveable, survy-ridden rogues as they plunder a galleon for more booty than a Beyonce music video.
The initial reaction to Tortuga 1667 is that it is gorgeous. Even down to the fake book that it’s stored in and the roll out map you play on. It’s such a lovely looking game that you can’t help but like it right from the off.
I think I must secretly be a Dwarf. At 175 cm tall, it’s hard to justify that statement, but I have a beard, I don’t mind being underground, I like large stone structures, I enjoy drinking ale and I listen to loud music. So, I’m going with it. This kinship I’ve just made up is going to be used to thinly explain why I find Dwarfs’ Fall from Vesuvius Media so appealing, at least the idea of it anyway.
Actually, there’s a few reasons why I backed Dwarfs’ Fall on Kickstarter and it wasn’t entirely based on my affinity for rock. The artwork is very whimsical and I love its cartoon style. It’s cute and serious at the same time. There is the other hefty reason that it is in fact a worker placement, so of course I gave it a looksee being the Euro-lover here are Collider Towers.

Countdown: Action Edition brings the excitement of 80s action movies to your tabletop. While most of the positions in the game are randomly determined, one player will always be the Action Hero. That player will be the final arbiter in discussions and act as a GM, of sorts, for the game. White jacket with huge shoulder pads, feathered hair, flashy sports car, and sunglasses sold separately.
From the post:
Every week we are going to be taking an in depth look at Countdown: Action Edition and talking about different parts of gameplay. For our first installment we will be taking a look at the infamous Action Hero Role.
Just like Action Heroes are an enormous part of any action movie, they are a vital part of every game of Countdown: Action Edition. The Action Hero acts as the game’s moderator, final decision maker, and narrator of the story.
Unlike the other roles, which are drafted secretly by players at the start of the game, the Action Hero Role is given to a volunteering (or chosen) player. For the sake of everyone’s sanity we will call that player simply the Hero. The Hero player then chooses which Action Hero they want to play and places the matching Action Hero card face up in front of them. This means all players will always know exactly who the Action Hero is. This doesn’t mean that the Hero player is stuck outside of the action though, they have specially designed win conditions that effect many of the other Hostage and Villain’s win conditions. It is important that everyone knows and understands the Hero’s main goal during each game.
I love a good '80s action flick. They're just so over-the-top crazy, you simply have to smile, even if the plots are strange, the clothing odd, and the one-liners could often use some work. Countdown:
I love a good '80s action flick. They're just so over-the-top crazy, you simply have to smile, even if the plots are strange, the clothing odd, and the one-liners could often use some work. Countdown: Action Edition looks to bring everything you love about 80s action movies and put it on your tabletop. There's a bomb countdown. There's hostages. There's unlikely heroes. It's got it all.
About the game:
Dog Might Games is back with its newest title Countdown: Action Edition! With a short play time, tons of player options, built-in moderator, and unique role-playing mechanics, Countdown: Action Edition delivers a totally new hidden role experience.
One reckless Action Hero An out of control hostage situation Who will you trust?
In Countdown: Action Edition players become characters within a 1980’s action flick. Villains have taken hostages and rigged the whole place to blow, but they didn’t count on the timely arrival of the Action Hero. Thinking fast they’ve hidden themselves among the hostages waiting to be released. There’s not enough time to save everyone. Get the innocent hostages out while leaving the bad guys behind to fall victim to their own plots. Unfortunately for our Hero, many of the hostages also have their own plans to use this situation to their advantage. Jam packed with nostalgia and humor, Countdown: Action Edition offers many new twists on the beloved hidden role genre.

Today we have: Exit the Game, Ascended Kings, Stroop, Component Collector & Dice Tray, DeepWars, Beasts of Balance, Jaipur iOS, Clank! Sunken Treasures Expansion, Isle of Monsters, Qwinto, Downforce, Century: Spice Road, Fistful of Lead - Reloaded, Watson & Holmes, and Zooloretto.
theMCGuiRE review take a look at Stroop, and new game from Grand Gamer's Guild. In this game you are basically fighting the clock (other players) to outsmart your own mind as every card plays a trick it needs to handle. So get ready and strap in because in this fun and fast party game, you are going to have a blast with 2-4 players!!
theMCGuiRE review takes a look at Dogmight's brand new component collector and one of their very nice and custom dice trays. These guys are making some very cool gaming components and I have been impressed with the artistic style on their products.
Today we’re going to take a look at Antimatter Games DeepWars, a 28mm miniature war game of underwater combat set in an alternate Earth in the 17th Century. I’d like to give a shout out to Eric over at Antimatter Games for sending us their game for us to take a look at.
In Beasts of Balance, players are trying to earn the most points by stacking creatures and other shapes onto a digitally connected platform (called a plinth in the game). As players stack items onto the plinth, the integrated app will reveal how the new shape interacts with the digital world. The goal of the game is to earn the most points, which is done by creating and caring for the animals you place.
Merchants trading camels, spices, fabrics, and treasures is the subject of Jaipur. Players will aim to trade in sets of cards to gain points, hoping to use their trading ability with the market to force their opponent to take lesser value sets. Most victory points wins, and two out of three games wins a match.
The main aspect that Sunken Treasures adds to Clank! is the danger of water. Each room or Crystal Cave can now be “flooded”, giving the space an extra bit of danger. Each turn that characters remain completely in water (moving only in flooded rooms/caves), they take one damage from suffocation. This is avoided by starting a turn or at some point moving to a non-flooded room.
In addition to the new board (double sided), the new cards, monsters, and market items interact with this concept. SCUBA gear (Sorcery Created Underwater Breathing Apparatus) dispels the perils of underwater travel making a stop at the market even more of a priority. SCUBA also aids in the speed of movement between particular flooded rooms.
Players act as monster wranglers aiming to collect the right group of monsters to scare “the crowd” and their neighbors. Each monster is aligned with a type (earth, fire, water) and monsters can scare either from being the strongest or by having a type that scares another type (i.e. water scares fire). Each time a monster scares, it collects a certain amount of points. The player with the most points at the end wins.
In Qwinto, each player will attempt to complete as many numbers as possible on their score sheet to score points. There are three different colored rows and a die in each of those three colors. Depending on what die (or dice) is rolled limits the row that you can write the result into, but your results have to ascend from left to right and you can’t use a duplicate number in a row or column.
The game ends when a player has completed two rows or a player has rolled four failures and then the player with the most points wins.
Fistful of Lead: Reloaded is a set of wargaming rules for ‘Gunfights in the Wild West’, published by Wiley Games. It was funded by a kickstarter project which was launched in November 2015, which had 132 backers and raised just over $8,000.
Watson & Holmes is a competitive mystery game. Included are 13 scenarios, each providing a different story, set of locations, and solution.
The game is begun by reading the scenario introduction and the two or three questions that need answering. From there, players race to investigate characters, locations, and items to find the answers to those questions.
In Zooloretto you are a zoo administrator working to grow and manage a wildlife park as efficiently as possible by collecting sets of animals without taking in ones that you have no room for.
The core “add or take” mechanism is the same principle used in the earlier published Coloretto. Indeed, today so many card game versions are produced from popular board games. Yet Schacht seemingly did the reverse (before the cool kids were doing it). His card game actually predates this board implementation, which adds additional moving parts.
To administer their parks, players collect sets of animals, kiosks and extra money as they come in by truck. On a turn, you must take one of three possible actions.

Well, this has been quite a week. Monday had the site down for reasons that are still not 100% identified (it blipped again a little earlier today, but was once more fixed by our outstanding IT guy, Lucas). Tuesday was busy playing catch-up. Plus, there's been article-writing and such behind-the-scenes for other stuff around here. Just a busy week. I know I could use some extra energy. And I think a bunch of bite-size gaming stories can do that very thing.
Today on the platter we have: Khurasan starts 15mm Late 14th Century Range, Acheson adds 28mm Gorillas, Love Formula Coming To Kickstarter This Month, Game Master Digital GM Tools Up On Kickstarter, New Quickshade Washes Available To Order From The Army Painter, Killbox Games New Releases and Kickstarter News, Khurasan releases new 15mm undead/evil wizard sets, English Version of Master of the Galaxy Coming to Kickstarter, The Component Collector Up On Kickstarter, and New Dvergr Commandos Available From Kromlech.
We are very happy to release the first codes in our 15mm Hundred Years War/Late Fourteenth Century range, two sets of English longbowmen. One set is wearing aketons (or gambesons if you prefer) with the other set adding leg harness and chainmail hauberks. Each figurine is provided with its own separate arrow bunch stuck into the ground.
The core period of the range is 1350-1400, when bascinets reigned supreme. A bit into the period (there's some disagreement as to exactly when) the extended visor called the hounskull was adopted, one of the most distinctive and menacing looks ever used by knights. Of course the range will focus on the Hundred Years War to start, and codes for knights in jupons and French infantry types are in production now as well, to be released soon. But other nations will be covered as well, and we are already making comprehensive lines of Spanish and Italians (these will be combined due to the close resemblance between many of their troop types). Look for foot knights and French infantry next, including crossbows, pavisiers and peasants.
Please note these are larger 15s like Testudo and many other more modern ranges.

Like all Dog Might products, the Component Collector was born from many nights at a table playing games. This modular tray system is the result of months of prototyping and is the perfect solution for organizing tokens, coins, and any other components for every game in your collection. Works wonderfully as an individual command center or as a communal bank for all players at the table. Great for RPGs, too.
