I'm always happy to see Kickstarter projects be made available for the general public. Well, Polyversal isn't quite ready to be on everyone's gaming table, but it will be soon. It's close enough, at least, so that you can go to the Collins Epic Wargames webshop and order yourself a copy.
Note that Polyversal is going to be a limited-release product. So if you do want your own copy, you should probably not dawdle around and just go make your order, instead. If you'd like a little bit more to get you to go now, you can use the code "Polyversal" (without the quotes, obviously), and get $5 off your order. That offer lasts until the end of October.

There is a distant peak. One whose soaring vistas, winding caverns, and sheer faces shame lesser crags. It is the culmination of what such a landscape should be, and as such claims only one name, the Mountain.
It is said that those who know the way can find the Mountain at the summit of every climb, over the crest of any foothill, in the depths of all caves. You are one such traveler, and you have led your people to the Mountain, for it is here that you shall make your lair.
As well as offering all of the discounts, stretch goals and freebies from the official Gnickstarter campaign, Sally 4th have put together some extra free products that are available exclusively from us.
Over the last couple of years Clear Plastic bases have really taken off, and we find ourselves dispatching many hundreds every week. Frostgrave is a game environment that really benefits from them as from turn to turn your figures could be standing on snow, stone flagstones, wooden floorboards or rocky outcrops. We are therefore giving away a bag of 30, 25mm clear round bases with every level Breeding Pit pre-order at level 3 (Pit Warrior) and above.
'Into the Breeding Pits', sees our warbands delve down to the subterranean level under the ruins of Frostgrave. Many gamers collected free Terra-Block dungeon sets as part of our 'Liche Lord' Nickstarter promotion, so to expand on this we have designed two exclusive rooms that are completely compatible with all of the existing Terra-Block Range. The 'Pit Slave Cells' features three cells within a larger room, each with hinged, working cell doors and is being included for free with all pre-orders at level 4 (Pit Chief) and above. Those who pre-order at level 6 (Pit Master) will also receive from us the 'Dungeon Entrance Chamber featuring a double width staircase within a 100mm x 200mm room with multiple exits.
Raging Heroes just unveiled another faction preview from their latest Kickstarter TGG2: Darkness and Light, introducing the Flesh Eaters for their Fantasy Lust Elves Army.

Hey everyone! With the Kickstarter looming just 14 days away, we wanted to share the design process for one of the characters of Wander! We will eventually be doing a google hangout before the campaign launches to show the process as its happening for a character that will eventually appear as a a stretch goal, but for now we’d like to show you how we came up with the design for Roland! We are going to hand it over to our talented artist, Heath “BA” Foley! He’ll take you through the process of designing Roland from beginning to end!
This new multi-part plastic regiment will be available very soon. Today, as an appetiser, we preview some unpainted & painted assembling samples. As usual with AoW regiments, assembly options are almost countless!
You can also see 360 views of each of these figures in our website

People can always find a way to make a buck. While not "the world's oldest profession" (that'd be something else), paying someone to fight your wars for you certainly goes back a long way as well. And that will progress far into the future as well, as there's a Mercenaries group now available for Polyversal.
This set can be added-on to your Kickstarter pledge, or picked as one of your forces in your current pledge. You get some infantry from Dark Realm Miniatures along with some Grav vehicles from Plasmablast Games.
The campaign has made it over their funding goal. So it's looking to get through stretch goals in the next 9 days.

There is a new project launched on Kickstarter by Moroz Publishing. This is not a board game, but something each of us wants to have on the table while playing our favorite RPGs, miniature wargames and a lot of other games with dice.
These are absolutely unique dice towers with a rotation mechanism. Roll dice by dropping them on the platform and pushing the lever!
Moroz Publishing together with Rightgames company are proud to present the Orc Totem and the White Castle — dice towers with a rotating platform. Unlike ordinary towers, you don’t throw your dice inside. Rather, you place them on a special platform, and let them loose with a special lever.
In addition to those two towers comes MDT-7 — a compact collapsible dice tower. This one easily fits in your bag and takes just a few seconds to fold out!
The project page has nice GIFs showing how these beauties work. Towers are shown in the introduction video too. Should be worth to see for yourself!
Today Knuckle Sammich, 9th Level Games’ 2-8 player, kobold themed card game of sammiches and eating your friends for lunch, successfully funded. The game funded within 3 days with the help of 277 backers.
In their latest update 9th Level Games hinted at possible stretch goal involving wood. The excitement level is high for this project and the 9th Level Games team have planned some exciting stretch goals including two possible pico-games, stickers, a Kickstarter campaign exclusive card, and paper minis.
Having delivered on two previously highly successful Kickstarter campaigns the team is poised to continue doing great things for their fans.
When asked about his feelings on the successful funding of Knuckle Sammich Chris O’Neill, 9th Level Games’ resident “Evil Wizard”, responded: “Oh yeah, fun-dead!!! SAMMICHES FOR ALL!!!”
Shieldwolf Miniatures had ventured in the area of Fantasy Busts financing a project called "Monuments of Glory" , aiming to create the best fantasy busts in the market and directed mostly at painters and collectors. First items revealed (and released) are the Talliareum Ogre Mercenary bust and the Krumvaal (Barbarian) Warrior from their Northern Alliance faction!

The relaunched Polyversal miniatures game Kickstarter is closing in on their Kickstarter goal. In order to get up and over the total, they've added on some new add-ons to the campaign. Along with that, there's a new pledge level to help entice people to join in, if there's been something that's been holding you back.
The add-ons let you get extra battle groups with your pledge. You can also pick up extra dice. Or, if you'd like, there's tanks or warthogs you can also add to your pledge. As for the new pledge level, it gives you 5 battlegroups worth of figures. This is setting you up for being able to get the Mercenaries as part of your pledge, if you want.

Hey everyone! We’ve been working hard on prepping everything for the Kickstarter campaign, slated for later in June. At this point, we’ve got everything lined up! Were just putting on the last few graphics and finishing up some illustrations so that we can launch with all the assets we’ll need. We even have an amazing video being created to help hype up the line! From what we’ve seen, you guys will love it. Its all coming together beautifully, so we wanted to share the last design that’s part of the base goal…say hello to Ibexus, an incredibly grumpy ibex wizard!
LOAD, skirmish miniature game for 2-6 players, will launch on Kickstarter on 19th of May at 1pm CDT. They are offering amazing looking Epic miniature for free to anyone who pledge in first 24 hours of their campaign. This year’s Christmas present is secured!

The first time around, Polyversal didn't make it to their goal over on Kickstarter. But that doesn't mean things are over and done with. Never give up! As such, the folks over at Collins Epic Wargames have reconfigured, refactored, remathed (that's a word, sure it is), and have relaunched.
For those that missed it the first time around, Polyversal is designed to be a "universal tabletop miniatures game." What does that mean? Primarily it means it's a set of rules that doesn't have a specific set of minis associated with it. If you already have a bunch of 6mm, 10mm, or 15mm sci-fi figures hanging out, you don't have to worry about buying a whole bunch of new ones in order to play. You just need to pick up the rulebook. Also, as you see there, the rules are designed for 6mm, 10mm, and 15mm scales (it was originally written for the 6mm scale, but it's easily transferable to other scales).
The relaunch is up now and is already 1/3 of the way to their funding goal with 29 days still on the clock.

It's Saturday. Those of you that are at KingdomCon, be sure to selfie responsibly. #RossFace For me, it's the weekend before CMON Expo, so I'm super-busy getting things put together for the show. Lots to do, both work-related and just other things I need to get done.
In the meantime, though, I'm taking a break from baking German Chocolate Cake Cookies to bring you your regularly-scheduled Review Roundup.
Today we have: Blood Rage, Gempacked Cards, Star Realms, Polyversal, Scathach Games M.T.S Shipping Containers, Tash-Kalar Everfrost Expansion, VS 2PCG Defenders Expansion, Twilight Struggle Digital, Onimata, Warfighter, Stronghold 2nd Ed., Adventure Land, Thunder & Lightning, Celestia, Greedy Greedy Goblins, Splendor iOS, Feed the Shoggoth, Kingdom Death: Monster, and Res Publica 2230AD.
The thing that makes Polyversal stand out from the crowd is its being designed as a toolkit game, i.e. players can create army lists themselves and can take any miniature they own and use them in the game, but they are also planning on releasing the starter set of the rules with miniatures from different manufacturers to show players what’s being produced these days and also allow players to get a game going quickly whilst they start designing their own armies.
Join us as we check out the M.T.S Shipping Containers and accessories from Scathach Games, a UK based company specialising in laser-cut terrain for games like Warhammer 40k, Necromunda, and Infinity. Scathach Games contacted us a while ago asking if we’d review some of their terrain, and kindly sent over the products below. First we’ll have a look at the parts included in the various kits, and then what we can build out of them. As you can see below, they’ll definitely be handy for modern and sci-fi skirmish and wargames.
What follows is a thematic story “review” based on my recent solitaire session of Warfighter by DVG. Warfighter is a card-based tactical game of modern warfare, focusing on smaller groups of soldiers who are undertaking missions through enemy territory.
Stronghold is an asymmetrical two-player game. One player is the Defender, attempting to defend his medieval fortress. The other player is the Invader. Her horde of goblins, orcs, and trolls are trying to take the fortress from the Defender. Stronghold is a long and involved game, so I will not even attempt to list and explain every rule, action, and phase. Instead, let me just give you an overview of what the game feels like.
Adventure Land brings players to a medieval fantasy realm filled with swords, magical herbs, and deadly monsters. Players send their team of adventurers across the land, using strategy and smarts to score points by collecting valuable items, defending cities, and defeating evil.
In Thunder & Lightning, you’re playing in a grid made up of columns and rows. At the beginning of the game, Thor and Loki each draw nine cards from their draw deck.
It's time once again for you to place your evening in our large, spindly hands. Following on from Arboretum and Pasta With Trees, why not invite your friends over for a game of Celestia and a fluffy frittata?
Lovely push-your-luck mechanics? Check! Little cardboard boat? Check! Vegetables? Check!
We're not sure who'd have a checklist like that, but if you do, we should hang out. Get in touch!
Here’s how Greedy Greedy Goblins works: 2-4 players all want to be the first to reach 100 gold coins. Between these players are a circle of mineshafts. Between the shafts is a giant pile of tiles. Running your hand across these tiles makes a sound like a wave pouring over a pebble beach, but don’t start daydreaming! Daydreams are for winners.
When it comes to great family games, one doesn’t have to look much farther than Splendor to find an award-winning example. A gem of a game (pun intended) from publisher Space Cowboys, Splendor sucked people in with its very accessible rules and entertaining engine building mechanics. We actually reviewed Splendor a while ago, and have played it quite a bit since then. Today, we are going to take a look at the tablet version of this popular board game and see how this gateway game translates to the digital realm.
Feed the Shoggoth! is a fast paced card game where you play a cult faction leader trying to earn victory points by sacrificing minions to the hungry Shoggoth. Sounds easy right? Wrong!
Red Publica 2230AD is all about set collection and trading. The game works by building an increasingly complex tableau of cards in front of you that give extra options and more importantly victory points. To build these cards you need to collect sets from one of two decks, races and sciences. You'll gain new cards at the end of every turn but to get the cards you need you're going to have to trade with other players.
It's nice to have options. Being able to pick and choose just what we want can really tip the scales on getting into something or not. Well, the fellows over at Polyversal have heard you and so they'r
It's nice to have options. Being able to pick and choose just what we want can really tip the scales on getting into something or not. Well, the fellows over at Polyversal have heard you and so they're offering new options for their box sets as part of their Kickstarter.
As such, you will have two options for each of the starting factions, the UN and OPFOR. This gives you four ways you can customize your box, along with the terrain tiles that go with them. Want all the options? You can get the one you didn't pick for each faction as an add-on. Because sometimes you just want to get a little bit of everything.
The campaign keeps chugging along with still 40 days to get in on the action.

Well, as Lynyrd Skynyrd said, Tuesday's gone. That, of course, means we've moved on to Wednesday. Woo! We're halfway through the week! Always a good feeling that. The weekend is getting closer every minute. Before we get there, though, we need to serve up some bite-sized stories we've come across in the past couple days.

Update 7 has been posted on the Polyversal Kickstarter. Update 7 posts several photos from running 4 games of Polyversal at the Williamsburg Muster convention in Williamsburg, VA. All players were brand new to the system, picked the rules right up, and had a good time. Collins Epic Wargames is working on a video that captures their raw first impressions of the game that will be posted later this week.
In addition, Update 7 adds 3 models to the basic boxed game contents- Typhark Tanks from Plasmablast Games.
Finally, Update 7 removes Milestone Rewards and describes why they got the axe.
The Guadalcanal battle set includes 145 units (109 surface ships and 36 aircraft) and lets you recreate four complete WWII naval battles of the 1942 Guadalcanal campaign. They are as follows:
Savo Island Cape Esperance 1st Battle of Guadalcanal 2nd Battle of Guadalcanal Tassafaronga
Of the 145 units, 61 units are new ships. The others are already existing ships from our inventory. We have included the planes that were specific to the naval battles in this set. In the very near future we will be releasing an add-on set of both Japanese and American ships and planes that will fill out the Pacific Theater Fleet. There will be many more Japanese aircraft and carriers. We will also have several American and Japanese destroyer escorts, American PT boats and many escort carriers.
Next up however is the Battle Off Samar set featuring Taffy 3 and it's epic battle against the Japanese Fleet. This will be quickly followed by our Pearl Harbor set that will include most of the ships in the Harbor at the time of the attack. We will publish those OOB shortly.
this time we are happy to present to you our troopers with Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifles. These will give you the option to replace men with Karabiner 98k in your squads. The weapon was planned as "MP 43" (for Maschinenpistole or machine pistol) but was renamed "Sturmgewehr" (assault rifle) for propaganda purposes. The Sturmgewehr was perceived as versatile and effective in combat. Yet, late war production problems did not allow to equip the German infantry formations completely.
The three figures bear a Sturmgewehr each. While the first shooter is firing from a firm standing position, the second man is reloading. He has already stuffed the empty magazine in his webbing as he opens a pocket to grab a new one. The third trooper is sprinting to reach cover. To not hinder movement he holds the weapon in one hand as German regulations dictated.
The three figures will be available for 7,90 € on our web shop in a few weeks.
LaserCutCard has released three turret options for its vehicles. These can be bought as add-ons to kits or on their own.
The turrets are compatible with the M113 APC and the Ratel 90. They cost $3.95 on their own or $2.95 to add on to a kit.
The price of all vehicles has also been reduced. The South African vehicles (Ratel, Buffel, Casspir and Moffel) have been reduced to $17.95 and the M113 APC has been reduced to $15.95

Well... that was a bit of an adventure. For those interested in keeping track, Monday I noticed my car had a coolant leak. Tuesday I took it into the shop. They originally said, "it'll just be a couple hours." Then they said, "it'll be overnight (they needed a part)." So, seeing as I was clear on the other side of town, I crashed at a friend's place (as a 50mi walk home didn't sound fun), picked up my car this morning, and am now back into the office. Hooray!
You know what I could use? A snack. Or at least some snack-sized gaming stories.
Hey! Look what we've got here!
In today's Snippets we have: Collins Epic Wargames introduces Milestone Rewards for Polyversal, Cast Metal Gaming Dice on Kickstarter, FatMan Productions Posts New Previews For Awakening Recon, Frostgrave Fan Base Launched, Blacksmith Miniatures release: the apothecary, Photos from Nuremberg Spielwarenmesse 2016, Malifaux translated to Italian, The Circle of Chaos Kickstarter Going On Now, Shipping Update from Nexus Miniatures, Titan-Forge releases new Void Cannon, Last Couple of Days for Era: The Consortium Kickstarter, and Coming on 13th Feb - Era: Lyres Pocket Edition - a £1 Tabletop RPG.
You've heard of Stretch Goals. Collins Epic Wargames is introducing something different with our funding campaign for Polyversal: Milestone Rewards.
"Hitting a milestone is big in life and in Kickstarter projects. We want to reward you for helping us do so."
If we reach various funding Milestones, we will do two things: 1) add something special to the game which may include more miniatures for Kickstarter Backers, and 2) Unveil a new gameplay preview so you can learn more about Polyversal. The first Milestone Reward adds 3 Plasmablast Games Typhark Tanks to the game and unveils a gameplay video covering Initiative, Orders, Activation, and Command and Control in greater detail. Help us unlock it by getting us to the 30% funded mark.
This is your chance to get your hands on a set of solid metal gaming dice and help out fellow gamers along the way. We need your contributions to keep this hobby going and we believe crowdfunding can make that happen. This campaign is going live for 30 days with lots of flex goals so be sure to check out the page below for more details.
Both FMP's founders are fans of a lot sci-fi movies, tv series and books, so we thought doing a sci-fi game inspired in the sci-fi culture of the 80’s and 90’s . About the rules we had somethings in mind during development that we really wanted to see in a miniatures game: Fast paced (30-40 minutes per game with about 40 miniatures per player), classic sci-fi looking miniatures (almost cartoonish), and with dynamic mechanics. Right now we have an alpha version of the rules, that we hope our contributor during the Indiegogo campaign help perfect and make definitive. It’s a d10 based system, with alternate activation of units, using a system of “command points”, hidden to your adversary. The four initial factions have a unique way of playing, so that in addition to the looks of it, the player may choose their faction based also in the game mechanics of it.
Story wise Awakening: Recon is a miniature game set in our galaxy thousands of years in the future. The Awakening was the arrival of the Ipse to our galaxy, a species completely alien to all of our galaxy’s life forms. The races now compete for the ever scarcer resources of the galaxy, sometimes coming into conflict with one another. This is the main focus of the game, the initial skirmishes between the mysterious Ipse, the human coalition of mega corporations called The Consortium, a tribal race of amphibious aliens called the Dagonians, and the hermit like Alphas, the remnants of a fallen civilization.

today we present to you our Panzerfaust soldiers. They are part of our expanding anti-tank segment. Under the immense pressure of allied tank forces, Panzerfausts were produced in several variations from 1943 onward. In the later years of the war they found extensive use by the German troops and their allies.
The models shown carry the Panzerfaust 60, the most common type produced. The german word meaning "tank fist" grew to be colloquially eponymous for shoulder-held AT-weaponry (like the term bazooka in the english speaking world). The Number denominates the effective range the weapon was supposed to have.
Two riflemen are moving into position to lay ambush to enemy tanks and to fire from close range. The third man has already left his Karabiner rifle behind and is about to fire his Panzerfaust .The pose of these miniatures was designed faithful to WWII-photographs.
The three Panzerfaust troopers will be available at 7,90 € in a few weeks at our online shop.
Dear painters, We are pleased to announce the new release of February: "the apothecary" Designer, sculptor and painter: Jean-marc BRISSET Matérial: résin Kit: 2 pieces Total height : 40 mm Public price: 15 euros
Hello, We just returned from the Spielwarenmesse (Nuremberg international Toy Fair), this year the number of games publisher with their booth is even increased! Like last year, we photographed and we have collected several pictures in this gallery
The Circle of Chaos is a team of sculptors from the world of miniature wargaming. The Circle is very proud to announce our first project. We have created a set of masters and are ready to produce 7 evil and chaotic figures for use with 28mm games. The set will be cast in white metal.
We are running the project using Kickstarter. All our backers who pledge will be rewarded with one set of the seven figures. Free world wide postage is included in the pledge for complete transparency. The project on Kickstarterwill run for about two weeks and end on the 16th of February.
The sculptors who worked on this project were Curtis Fell, Ross Whitehorn, Geoff Solomon-Sims, James Sherriff, Christian Af Bjärgö and Andy Atom Taylor
We have also slated a big surprise for our backers. It’s being kept under wraps for now but soon to be revealed is a mystery model from Jason Wiebe. It’s looking very huge and very awesome, so please stand by for some images!
Our project manager for this Kickstarter campaign is Curtis Fell, proprietor of Ramshackle Games. Curtis brings a wealth of expertise to the project having run five successful campaigns so you can rest assured that this one will be delivered on time.
The Not so Good news is Harry solo got "mashed" during mastering (see picture) - which means He's going to have to be repaired and re-mastered sadly (so Harry Solo is INDEED going Solo ;) ) It happens sometimes like this (to be frank, I was actually more worried about the Prophet) I'm afraid its "just part of the Biz" as it were, all I can do is plough on!
Rather than make people wait any further, I'm sending the Bulk of Everyones Order now - and Harry will be sent later on as soon as he's repaired, re-mastered, and Cast Up.
Era: The Consortium is the story of a Colony Ship launched from Earth and the habitable world it discovers, Taranis. The game follows the inhabitants of Taranis as they create a society, encounter alien races and explore the space nearby.
Era: Lyres - Pocket Edition is coming to Kickstarter... at the price of £1!
It's a full-colour rulebook that contains everything you need to play, including Character Creation.
The Kickstarter offers rewards such as suggesting your own Location or creature to be added to the website (and therefore the official universe of Era: Lyres!)
The Stretch Goals focus on adding more content to the website!
And the game itself is £1... for a full-colour digital rulebook.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! ... is what day it is. At least for me as I'm typing this, anyway.
But "fun with time zones" will have to wait, because right now we've got a couple of bite-sized stories to give you in our Sunday Snippets feature. So let's get to it.
Today we have: Age of Tyrants Funds, Khurasan releases 1980s Motor Rifles support weapons, Another World Miniatures Releases Selene Redux Mini, Hero Lab Launches D&D 5th Edition SRD, and Polyversal Kickstarter now EU Friendly.
We've unlocked quite a lot of stuff on the Kickstarter, just wondering if you could make some news articles regarding our most recent updates and unlocks?
One of the big bits of feedback we had was that people wanted something quick and easy to select for their pledge levels - John sat down and worked out, with Mark, some armies that would be great for getting started. We've also unlocked a whole load of Kickstarter Exclusive Heroes and also the CLAU units which were so popular in Urban War, this game's predecessor.
We are very pleased to release the latest set of Soviets for our Late Cold War range, the support elements for a mid-late 1980s Motor Rifle platoon. Contained in the set are 23 figures plus some additional parts for their weapons:
-- three PKM machine gun teams in three different pose-sets -- two AGS-17 teams -- one 120mm heavy mortar team -- one AT-7 ATGM team -- one MANPAD team with SA-14 -- three squad member figures with RPG-18)
There's also a motor rifle infantry deal -- the above set plus the basic rifle platoon at a reduced price. Available now.
Lone Wolf Development, creator of the ENnie award-winning, tabletop gaming accessories Hero Lab® and Realm Works®, announced the release of D&D 5th Edition SRD support for their character management software – Hero Lab.
“Hero Lab is already the go-to character management tool for many RPGs, and the D&D 5th Edition SRD will be no different,” said President Rob Bowes. “Gamers can quickly create characters and even add their own material. Even better, DMs can build monsters, create NPCs, weave them into an encounter, and manage the combat – all in one convenient place. This level of support is unparalleled, and we’re thrilled to bring it to D&D.”
Hero Lab includes everything in the official SRD, such as races and their traits, character classes and class features, spells, equipment, magic items, and other character creation necessities. This initial release offers character creation support, and DM-specific tools, including all monsters and mechanics, will be incorporated throughout the month of February.
Hero Lab support for D&D 5th Edition SRD is available on Windows, Mac, and iPad. Current Hero Lab users can add it to their existing license for $20, while new users can purchase it for only $29.99. This price includes all the DM tools and access to community-created content.
Collins Epic Wargames has heard your comments and requests and made a few adjustments to their kickstarter. New rewards have been added, add-ons have been added, and, most importantly, certain rewards involving shipping are now EU friendly meaning customers in the EU can save significantly on shipping and avoid import duties.

Collins Epic Wargames has launched their Kickstarter campaign for Polyversal, their new 6mm sci-fi miniatures game. Well, saying it's just Collins Epic Wargames is a bit false. I've been talking lately about "super groups" of game-makers coming together to create something more (usually in the form of porting games to English). Well, this Kickstarter is a partnership between Collins Epic Wargames and 6 other companies.
You see, Collins Epic Wargames is making the rules. They aren't making (and won't be making) any specific minis for the project. However, Brigade Models, Hawk Wargames, Plasmablast Games, Microworld Games, and Dark Realm have made figures that will be added to box sets for the game. Also, The Phalanx Consortium has made some terrain for the game. So yeah, quite a grouping there.
The campaign's not quite 1/4 of the way to their goal, but considering there's 58 days left to go, there's plenty of time.
Well, I was certainly busy yesterday. Made a brine for a pork loin that'll be dinner today. Made a pot roast that'll be dinner during the week. Made banana pudding from scratch that'll be dessert for
Well, I was certainly busy yesterday. Made a brine for a pork loin that'll be dinner today. Made a pot roast that'll be dinner during the week. Made banana pudding from scratch that'll be dessert for the week. If anyone asks if I'm "a gamer" I say, "that's just my day job. My hobby is cooking." :P
Anyway, seeing as my day job is gaming, and it is during the day, and my hobby is cooking, which includes making bite-sized morsels of yummy, here's some bite-size gaming morsels.
Today we have: Mage Company Announces Carrotia, Siege of Verdan Coming To Kickstarter Next Month,
First game for this year and will be demoed in Spielwarenmesse, is Carrotia. Carrotia is a coop, tile placement game for 1-6 players racing against the time. In Carrotia you try to collect enough carrots by building a way for your rabbit through a map full of carrots and animals that try to stop you. But watch out! There is not much time to make decisions. The time is running!
The board is divided in three zones. The first includes 9 tiles, the second 16 tiles and the last one 25 tiles. For each zone there is a corresponded small deck of mission cards that point the entrance and the way out. Each player moves the bunny to the direction they want but beware, you can't move backwards. Choose the correct way in order to collect the most carrots, complete the mission and try to avoid the owl, the hawk and the rest birds!
You are not alone in this journey. The bunnies will help you with their special abilities!
After almost 2 years Siege of Verdan will be making its return to kickstarter on February 26th 2016. They have also kicked off the whole month long celebration with a Collectors Edition give away.
The games creator Patrick Siebert took some time off to not only develop the game but also develop a youtube channel that does reviews to help other game developers with promoting their dreams.
Collins Epic Wargames is pleased to share a story introduction video for our upcoming 6mm tabletop miniatures system, Polyversal. Polyversal takes place on a near-future Earth. The game is compatible with any miniatures out there 6-10mm and will be launching on Kickstarter this month!

It seems that for most, this long weekend has been a rather rainy one (I know I've had plenty of plans altered by the skies opening up and dumping down rain everywhere). I hope you're keeping dry and safe out there. Might just want to play some games inside. Or you could do like me and cook something. I've got Italian Beef in the crock pot and even though Christmas was several days ago, I decided to make another fruitcake (I enjoyed the first one so much and had enough leftover ingredients).
Speaking of bite-size morsels, let's get you some bite-size stories for your Sunday.
Today we have: Deathball v1.5 Released, Polyversal 6mm Sci-Fi Miniatures System Kickstarter Teaser Posted, New Dice Trays from Tectonic Craft Studios, and Infamy Miniatures Running Goblin Chieftain Kickstarter.
Today we have a fairly hefty update to Dreadball. Over the past few months we have been looking at ways to create an even smoother and more enjoyable version of the game, and finally have come up with v1.5.
Collins Epic Wargames has announced that their 6mm Sci-Fi Miniatures system will be on Kickstarter in January. Check out the teaser trailer for the KS.
Polyversal is an upcoming 6mm gaming system designed by Ken Whitehurst and is compatible with everything 6mm. It will include a design tool to create your own “combatant tiles” for use with the game. Collins Epic Wargames is also working with 6 manufacturers to create boxed versions that include an assortment of miniatures with professionally made tiles in addition to the rules.
One Shots is a new and limited edition range from Infamy Miniatures, created with some simple goals in mind:
* make amazing new models for collectors and painters * explore what can be done in non-steampunk genres * push for quality in every way possible, from initial concept all the way to the casting * involve a community in the design and production process of the releases.
One Shot Number One, the Goblin Chieftain, is Infamy's first fantasy miniature, sculpted in stunning detail by Valentin Zak.
Test casts are made, they look great and production is ready to go. If the £2,500 campaign total is reached the models will be cast as high-quality resin kits, packed into bespoke boxes with a hand-numbered art card (and other goodies) and shipped out to backers in 2016.

From now until the 1st of December, you can get 30% off everything in their shop. Simply use the code SAVE30 and you'll get the discount (seems pretty simple). Show Hitler what you're made of!

It's Saturday. That means reviews. Without further ado, let's get to it.
Today's subjects include: Armello, Castle Panic: The Dark Titan Expansion, Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, Clash of Nebulas Battle Mat, Fog & Friction, Heroes, Takenoko Chibis, Mafia de Cuba, Volt: Robot Battle Arena, The King's Armory, Magic the gathering: Arena of the Planeswalkers, and Malifaux.
Armello is a digital board game set in a lush world with a dying king. You must battle the other players and triumphantly claim the throne before he dies.
First off, this is my first review and I hope that I can do some kind of justice here for the game. I am new to the Spearpoint 1943 line of games, however I have found it to be a very fun yet simple design. The gameplay is very smooth and can be fast paced leading to quick games, which is basically what the game is about.
Understanding the basic game mechanics is fairly simple and can be picked up quite fast. There are going to be times where you may find yourself in a position of not quite understanding/interpreting a game card (whether it’s a Command card, or a Damage Card)... if this happens, you can rest assured that Byron (the game designer/publisher) or other experienced players will be available here at BGG to help you out.
Welcome to our review of the 6×3 Clash of Nebulas battle mat, a gaming surface suitable for use with space combat games such as Star Wars X-Wing, Armada, and Star Trek: Attack Wing. Artistic Impressions produce a wide range of these gaming mats, we’ve previously reviewed their Urban Commando and Battleground Gaming Mats which are great for wargames like Warhammer 40k.
I should probably start this review by stating that I am not a World War 2 nut, I really couldn’t tell you the difference between a Sherman and a Tiger and put a Spitfire and a Hurricane in front of me and I couldn’t tell you which one is which. However, there are people in this world who are, and I can tell you that Fog and Friction has been designed for those people. The reason I know this is because I played Fog and Friction with one of these WWII aficionados and he was very pleased with the historical accuracy. I’m now going to ruin that sentiment by saying that Fog & Friction plays a lot like Warhammer 40,000 Conquest.
I’m a sucker for great artwork on a board game. The saying goes you should ‘never judge a book by its cover’ and the same goes for board games. Just because the publishers had sense to hire a decent artist it doesn’t mean they employed a decent game designer. It was the artwork that first hooked me into Heroes, by Lion Games, when it was shown off on Boardgamegeek’s 2014 Essen Preview. Heroes proved to me not once, but twice that you shouldn’t judge a board game by its box art.
Heroes instigated the full excitement of the delivery of a new board game; the hurried ripping up of the cardboard packaging, the thoughtful look over the box to behold all its beauty, the weighing up of the game and its contents, carefully releasing it from its cellophane prison, teasing the box open and then feasting on the un-punched cardboard treasures, unsealing the decks and playfully rolling the dice and a quick flick through the rules.
It was then that dread hit me.
Heroes is a lane based card game, or so I thought.
The Emperor of China, in a gesture of peace and goodwill, gave you a male panda to raise in Takenoko. You did such a fine job that now you’re being offered a second panda, and this time you’re getting a female. Your male panda will now have company and lots of it because, well, where there’s a male panda and a female panda, there tend to be some baby pandas. Nine, to be exact, which defies the reproductive odds of panda-kind given that most pandas have only a single offspring at any given time. But hey, this is a board game, not reality, so bring on the babies!
It seems like every other week these days we’re blessed with the release of a new social deduction game in a small box. Whether you’re trying to prevent the president from getting exploded, confusing a hidden spy with double-entendre’d communiques, or rooting out the werewolves in one night, short hidden role games for big groups are in.
But have you ever thought to yourself, “I do sure love these hidden-role games, but I think I would prefer to choose which role I get to play”? Well, Mafia de Cuba might just be the game for you.
Description from box cover and rulebook: In 1994, the first national robot competition took place in San Francisco. Competitors from across the country brought their radio-controlled creations made out of spare parts. Several years later, the first televised robot combat competition was aired, which introduced the general public to the budding sport of robotic combat. Decades have passed since those early competitions. The robots have become more technologically advanced. The base of spectators and fans grew at an unprecedented rate. Large technology firms took notice and injected significant sponsorship capital into the sport. Prize pools for robot battles grew to dwarf those of other televised competitions. Professional robot operators gained celebrity status as their matches became the most watched sporting events in the world. The stakes are higher than ever. Do you have what it takes to step into the robot battle arena? VOLT: Robot Battle Arena is a tactical game of robotic combat. Be the first player to score five victory points. Players earn victory points by having their robot on the active control point at the end of the round or by destroying opposing robots. You must use your wits to out-think and out-maneuver your opponents to win!
The King’s Armory is a co-op tower defense game for 1-7 players that remains true to the online genre of tower defense; in addition, it allows new players to drop in or drop out of the game without destroying the game balance!
In Traders of Osaka, players are merchants who are attempting to ship four different types of goods from Alexandria to Carthage. Players affect how quickly or slowly the ships move and can trigger pirate raids that may cost their opponents their goods. (Traders of Osaka moves the gameplay to a new continent and era, with players now trying to deliver cargo from Osaka to Edo, but otherwise gameplay remains the same.)
I'll start with a confession. Every month, as I sit down to write this column, I feel a dilemma. Miniatures games are, of course, games. Part of the goal of these columns is to expose you to clever or innovative gaming ideas being developed in the miniatures world. Thanks to limits on space and the amount of time I'm comfortable demanding, I end up exploring the gamishness of the game and have little space for anything else.
Yet miniatures games are also more than simple games, and none exemplify this better than Malifaux, our pick for this month. They are, in a real sense, about style. You don't spend outrageous amounts of time and money on little models just for the act of gaming – you could use cardboard tokens and cereal boxes with their rules. You buy and assemble and paint the models and build the terrain and read the lore for the same reason I own aviators and a (fake) leather jacket – because you want to feel cool. You want some panache and style with your dice rolls and movement decisions.

Collins Epic Wargames is running a Kickstarter campaign for their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front Heavy Weapons Expansion packs. These were packs that were offered as a stretch goal at the end of their previous Kickstarter campaign. However, actual production costs for the cards were higher than anticipated, and they were made at a significant loss. So the point of this Kickstarter is to bridge the gap a bit.
This does mean that the product is pretty much ready to go and will ship either this month or next. You can get a special deal on both Spearpoint and this Heavy Weapons Expansion through this Kickstarter campaign. The campaign is already over the funding goal (which was pretty low, to be fair). It's a short campaign, only set to run for another 8 days. So you'd better hurry.

Collins Epic Wargames has some new releases they're working on for Spearpoint 1943, their popular WWII card game. One takes us to the Eastern Front, where the sleeping bear that is Russia has awoken, being poked by Hitler's forces, and has decided that such a poking cannot go unmauled. The other is a Heavy Weapons expansion, because big guns are fun.
The Eastern Front set will come with 220 new cards, focusing on the Russian and German forces that were used during the war. Also are 12 historic scenarios taken from battles that raged during the war. There's also new Event cards and more. Collins Epic Wargames has posted up some previews of the Scenario Cards they're working on as part of their Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front game.
Within Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, I wanted to do something a little different regarding scenarios. The original Spearpoint 1943 included nine free downloadable scenarios that were in an 8.5"x11" format. That's not the best format for a game box that's quite a bit smaller than that. So, for Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, I envisioned Scenario Cards. Most games that have scenarios include them in a rulebook or in a separate booklet, but what I don't like about that (and I'm guilty of it myself) is that the rulebook should be a standalone reference for the rules- separate from scenarios- such that either can be referred to during the course of a game independently. At least that's my theory.
Scenario Cards in Eastern Front accomplish this (hopefully elegantly) and keep you from having to 1) download additional content, 2) print out that content, and 3) awkwardly store it. In game, the card is a quick-reference for both players, leaving the rulebook for its purpose- a rules reference as needed.
Check out the card (front and back) for the first scenario in Eastern Front, a German anti-partisan operation called Operation Kugelblitz, which historically began in February 1943. Twelve total scenario cards will be included in Spearpoint 1943 Eastern Front, inspired by historical battles that occurred during 1943 between the USSR and Germany... Kursk anyone?
