I think it’s safe to say that most of us reading this page like playing board games of some kind. Board games are a great way to spend time with friends. But some games aren’t so easy to just start playing. As many of us enjoy games, I’m sure just as many can name a game they love to play, but hate to have to set up and put away. Or what if you want to play a game with some friends, but they’re not living near you anymore? Or what if you’re out on a trip and want to play games, but don’t want to have to pack an extra trailer just to carry all the games you could potentially play? That’s where Tabletopia comes in.
Tabletopia likens itself to Kindle for books and iTunes for music, but for board games. This virtual tabletop is programmed for use with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. You can join the online database for the games you like to play, so there’s a good chance of finding others that also enjoy the game. Are you a game developer or designer? There’s tools included for making your own games, as well as running playtest sessions or setting up demos of your products to show others.
The system is designed to duplicate the tabletop gaming experience but on your computer. It’s not just “a video game that plays like a board game” but it actually is the board and card games you love in a digital form.
The Kickstarter campaign just launched this morning and they’re already more than 1/4 funded with still 31 days left on the clock.
