Soccer (or Football, to those of you not in the US) is the most popular game in the world. It's easy to see why. All you need is a ball and some open space. While the athletic ability of a player certainly has much to do with their success, a truly good player is going to use their smarts. It's that outwitting your opponent aspect that Soccer 17 brings to the foreground. The card game is over on Kickstarter now.
In Soccer 17, you and your opponent are looking to have the most goals at the end of the game (as one does in soccer). To do that, you play different cards depending on if you're in control of the ball or not. The cards are played face-down and both players reveal them at the same time. It's sort of a "rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock" sort of thing, where certain defenses beat certain attacks, allowing the defender to now control the ball. If you are able to progress up the field, you can attempt a shot on goal.
The campaign is only about 1/4 funded, but there's still 25 days left on the clock to make it to their goal.
