Even with all the various options out there for games, sometimes you just can't find exactly what you're looking for. At that point, you sit down and write your own system, taking bits from games you like while omitting the parts you don't. In the end, you have your own, unique system. You can then place your game out there for other people to try and then become a part of the cycle anew. That's just what's going on with Questor's Journey, a new fantasy RPG up on Kickstarter.
The game was written when other game systems were falling short of the author's expectations. It was made using three main premises. The first is that characters shouldn't be limited by a class system. If a particular character wants to specialize in a certain thing, they should be able to do so, regardless of other factors for the character. The second is that combat should be more deadly and based on skill. Even great warriors are felled in combat due to quirks of luck or a cunning plan their opponent puts together. The third is that magic should be rare and dangerous. Wizards shouldn't just be artillery and machine guns for the party, but something more.
With those in mind, the game was made, and now it's up on Kickstarter for you to get for yourself, if you want.
The campaign's up on Kickstarter now. They're about 1/3 funded with 10 days left to go on the clock.
