“I hear you’ve not been painting in orange recently, so now, here are some pumpkin guys!”

If anyone has a Knight Miniatures Green Goblin, and are bummed they won’t be able to do anything with it, here’s your chance.

So apparently all you Malifaux players are on notice. PP has you in their crosshairs.

Not my cup of tea aesthetically, but there is part of me that kind of wants to paint a unit of the pigs riding on guys’ backs just so I can put big nasty skid marks on their shirts where the pigs’ asses are. The 12-year old boy portion of my psyche demands it.

The 12-year-old portion of my psyche wants to convert full-frontal, anatomically-correct warbeasts.

Eh. Don’t understand any of the “copying” claims. Neither Malifaux nor WMH were the birthplace of these concepts. That said, I’m not really impressed by PP’s take on them. The pigs are cool though.

They look like they’re made for Malifaux. Well, not the current plastic computer-rendered Malifaux – they look more like the original metal miniatures. Malifaux has a little boy with a big beast leading an army. This one has a little girl.

It has nothing to do with where the concepts may have come from. It’s just how they look. It’s an obvious comparison to make. You cannot expect people to ignore it.

I don’t think anyone is accusing Privateer Press of actually doing anything wrong. They’re just disappointed.

The new faction doesn’t look like Warmachine or Hordes. They don’t even really look like a faction, just an assortment of Halloween-themed figures. There’s not much to be excited about unless you wanted something that vaguely mixes Warmachine and Malifaux together.

Little kid with a big horrific monster in tow has been around for a very long time. It is kind of a trope.

I think I liked Bioshock’s take on it the best.

Bioshock’s little kid has a big metal friend. That actually fits in with Warmachine better than the Grymkin version. (Yes, I know this is a Hordes faction.)

To be fair, I’ve been playing the Iron Kingdoms RPG for a long time, so to me, Grymkin fit into the setting just fine -and they probably should look like the older Malifaux minis. I do have to admit, there are things I miss about Wyrd’s old line.

This isn’t the first time that something has been vaguely fairy tale style creepy and tons of people have said “Oh, it is clearly copying Malifaux.” I’ve got to hand it to the folks at Wyrd for owning that aesthetic in the minds of so many fans.

Then again, when the Sigmarines came out with Space Marine shoulder pads, for whatever reason tons of people said they looked like Privateer Press minis (as if GW hasn’t been oversizing pauldrons for a lot longer).

I was pretty “meh” on the concept and sculpts right up until they got to the new iteration of Old Witch. Been waiting for steamtech Baba Yaga to get her hut for ages now.
And yeah, the piggybacks are pretty funny too.

Someone should tell them that film making isn’t their forte.

I honestly think that the minis look nice- in as much as I was able to put up with the very long “mood” stuff going on.
