It's one thing to get a one-shot module to augment your D&D game. It's another to get a group of them that you can sprinkle throughout a larger campaign, creating effectively a "B-story" for everything else that might be going on. That's just what the Places by the Way module set looks to create. It's up on Kickstarter now.
The author of the series, Douglas Sun, has had experience writing modules before. Back when AEG was doing mini-adventures, he wrote three of them. He takes his inspiration from his days doing those modules as well as side-quests from RPGs. Putting those two together, he's planning on making a series of adventures that share common elements, helping to link them together.
The Kickstarter campaign's already more than 6x funded with still 20 days left to go.
