Knight Models has some new minis available for their Batman miniatures game, including the new Heath Ledger Joker.
So is this even a game yet? Models are incredible, but I don’t see any rule book, rules, etc.
On the knight models website you can download the pdf’s
Thanks, ill see if I can find it
Scroll down a bit.
UNless I’m doing something wrong the rules are not actually “free” in the usual sense… you can’t download them unless you buy something. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but it certainly doesn’t help their cause in getting the word out about this game.
You are doing something wrong… 😉
(rules are free to download without having to buy anything)
There was a demo game at the Bovingdon Tank Museum wargames show couple of weeks ago. Simple Miniatures in the UK (Chirstchurch) sells it
I love the looks of the rules, this is what superhero fan mini gamers have been clamoring for. Not weak Clix games, but real GOOD minis with an intriguing rule set. Need to pick this up soon.
Minis are good, but the rules still need a LOT of work. Since they are free, I guess it is a matter of getting what you pay for.
Like how? I did a read through and didn’t see anything glaringly bad, besides editing and translation. Looks like a good little skirmish game to me. And there’s lots of free rules systems out there that are very well put together.
The balance is super-skewed. Being the titular character, any version of Batman is an auto-win. If you don’t play with a Batman, there are certainly levels of élan the different villains provide, but you would have to be extremely skilled or lucky to win with a Penguin gang against a Joker gang. That being said, supposedly there is a new Penguin gang blister that has an Uzi and a shotgun that are ‘good’, but they both are one-shot weapons, which suits their sense of balance.
All in all, it is a tough design space as Batman can’t be a push-over, but the current power level is pretty ridiculous. There are all sorts of good and cheap rule sets out there, and while Batman is a good hook fora skirmish game, if eel like the other options might be more… fulfilling?
I can kinda see that from the stats, though the game still seems way deep in a beta state, so maybe more development is needed like you say.
But personally, with these mini’s, I equate it to my feelings of Pacific Rim. I went in there to watch giant robots fight giant Kaiju. If there was an actual story or plot in there, that’s just a bonus. Same here, I get to roll dice in Gotham City with dream models, if there’s a balanced game somewhere in there, fantastic, but in this case isn’t my #1 priority 🙂
Geez guys, why so serious?
