Dino Wars knows what people want from their dinosaur minis games… more dinosaurs! So they’re delivering.

From the update:

Hey all, after working with our suppliers we are now able to supply an additional 3 dinosaurs for the same kickstarter goal!

Triceratops, Velociraptor and Stegasaurus have now been added to the kickstarter price list!

Try taking the idea beyond “Dino with rockets strapped to its side and armour plates slapped over it” and I might be interested. Yes armoured dinosaurs with advanced weaponry is a cool concept but you’ve got to apply more craft and imagination to the development of that concept than what I see here for it to be an exciting prospect.

Have you seen the rest of the project?

I agree. How do the dinosaurs even shoot their guns? I get that they have some sort of mind control device worked into them or whatever, but most of the dinosaurs look like someone strapped a shotgun to them with a leather belt, and half of those look like they are at serious risk of shooting themselves in the back of the head (I’m looking at you, Dilo and Triceratops).

Apparently the surviving convicts, who didn’t die in the crash, or when the prisoners killed each other, or by venturing outside and getting eaten, found out about the dinosaurs they “began crafting technical devices to control the brain functions of these colossal beasts”.

So it’s kind of like an extreme version of Scrapheap Challenge (or Junkyard Wars).

I want to know how convicts are tech savy enough to craft neural wetware to allow dinosaur brain/weapon interface, yet can’t seem to craft logical weapons.

The funny thing is that if it had all been done as a comedy, spoof game they would be nailing it 🙂

I love the Triceratops that looks like a happy kids colouring in project, but then it’s got a mini-gun and various other canons mounted randomly on it’s back.

It’s the sort of picture you can imagine some kids parents getting called into school to discuss “behaviour problems” for.

The patch would be to just say f- it and have the back story be that a Big and Tall men’s outlet store transport ship crashed on the planet with its cargo of XXXXL belts and obligatory nanobots that are the other important facet of intergalactic fashion. Owing to the planet being bombarded by strange cosmic radiation, the dinosaurs fused with these belts and nanobots to become Dinosaurs with Weapons Belted to Them. They gained no additional intelligence whatsoever, have nobody controlling them, and it is entirely a matter of chance whether some primordial instinct will cause them to fire their awesome payload of weapons. So a game with a stegosaurus and a triceratops would mostly involve them taking intermittent pot shots at each other while they tried to feed on leafy foliage.

“Now on BBC1, the director’s cut of Jurassic Park, with extra dinosaurs”.

Why not just buy the rights to Dino-Riders and make a game from that? I might be interested, then.

    • That surely would be REALLY expensive.

Plus people don’t get as worked up about licensed merchandise as you’d expect. I bought all of the rights to the Snorks in the mid-90s and the role playing game totally bombed. After producing the core books and two dozen sourcebooks, I called it quits. Then someone buys me out, renames it “Vampire: The Masquerade,” and makes a fortune.

I love snorks. I still have my books, but nobody will play with me 🙁
