Mantic has announced the start date for their Mars Attacks The Miniatures Game Kickstarter campaign. Watch the skies this October.

From the announcement:

Mantic Games and The Topps Company are joining forces to present Mars Attacks: The Game!

Set against the backdrop of the new and expanding Mars Attacks universe, the game will allow two (or more) players to take on the role of Martian invaders or the human resistance, and battle for the fate of the planet…

This tactical tabletop game features rules by veteran designer Jake Thornton and a host of stunning Mantic miniatures which can be used straight out of the box or painted to add even more character to your games.

The Kickstarter campaign for Mars Attacks: The Game will run from 4th October 2013 to 3rd November 2013.

They discussed the game in the latest podcast (Episode 10). In th podcast, they said it the game will come with modular terrain, similar to how they did DeadZone. In fact, they said the terrain pieces will be physically compatible, though obviously the themes are different.

Overall, looks pretty exciting. I’m pretty certain I’ll be backing this one.

That’s cool. Hopefully there will be rules for Deadzone crossovers.. that would be wonderful 🙂

I am done with Mantic they executed so poorly on the Kings of War Kickstarter that they have lost all credibility with me. How a company could put out such poor models that don’t even come close to matching the concept art is beyond me. There is a huge whole in the industry that they could fill, but I think they are missing the mark big time.

Is this posted by a script? I could have sworn I just read the same thing a few posts ago.

One of my favorite movies and a game company I really like, unfortunately they are letting Jake Thornton write the rules, and Dreadball and Deadzone are weak rulesets at best. I’ll have to watch it, maybe just pick the models up at least.

      Huh, what’s wrong with Dreadball?

It’s clunky and unbalanced in the games we played. It’s supposed to be more fluid than Blood Bowl, but doesn’t really achieve that.

Funny, I wouldn’t look at it a second time except that it IS written by Jake Thornton. I heavily encourage you to try out God of Battles written by Jake Thornton; it’s the most playable fantasy mass combat ruleset I’ve EVER played.

Yep, I’m a fanboy; but only because of the quality of what’s been produced. Seriously, try God of Battles. It’s a blast.
