Long ago, a race of dwarves and a race of stone giants were at war. The two races hated each other so much that they even invaded the heavens to destroy the ancestors of each race. Daarila, the creator of the Heavens and Earth, vowed to destroy both races. His anger was barely held in check by his wife, Eda, who pleaded on behalf of the others in Ki Khanga. Daarila still smote both races, but the world was left intact, except for the giant Cleave where his ax came down. Such was his anger that even the plants and animals left alive were tainted, turning into the monsters that roam the area now. That's the world you'll be diving into in Ki Khanga, a new fantasy RPG that's up on Kickstarter.
Ki Khanga is a Sword and Soul (African-inspired epic and heroic fantasy) RPG. It uses its own card-based combat system in order to keep actions quick, outcomes decisive, and the game moving along. It also has fairly free-form character creation rules, allowing you to come up with just the sort of character you want to play. It's a mix of the sword and sorcery RPGs that you've played before, mixed with African stories and oral traditions, giving it a blend of the familiar with the probably-not-so-familiar.
The Kickstarter campaign is up and running now. It's doing well, closing in on 2x funded with 19 days left on the clock.
