Greyhawk Returns in 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide for D&D’s 50th Anniversary
The latest video from the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel introduces the inclusion of Greyhawk in the upcoming 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. As the first campaign setting ever published for D&D, Greyhawk is set to play a central role in the new guide, coinciding with the game’s 50th anniversary.
The development team explains their decision to feature Greyhawk, which was originally created by Gary Gygax in the 1970s. The setting was first released in 1980 as a minimalistic campaign designed to allow Dungeon Masters to expand upon it. This flexibility is highlighted as one of the main reasons Greyhawk was chosen for the new DMG, as it provides a framework for DMs to build their own adventures.
The 2024 DMG will present Greyhawk as a campaign hub, complete with updated maps, locations, and sample adventures, centered around the city of Greyhawk. The team mentions that while the setting will stay true to its original form, some elements have been updated to better fit modern campaigns, including a balance of NPCs and story conflicts that reflect the evolving diversity of D&D.
This marks the first time a campaign setting has been fully featured in a Dungeon Master’s Guide. The 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide is available for pre-order now.
