Gen Con Australia 2010 has been cancelled.

Gen Con Australia, the Brisbane games and entertainment convention is regretfully announcing the show’s cancellation for 2010. On the eve of announcing its guest list and event schedule, the show’s organizers, Eventions Creative Event Management Pty Ltd have decided that due to the current economic climate it is not financially viable to hold Gen Con Australia in 2010.

“Due to the current economic climate and its recent effects around the globe, many businesses both here and overseas are finding exhibiting at an ever increasing number of events difficult”, said Ian Houlihan, Events and Marketing Director of Gen Con Australia. “We feel that given these circumstances, we would not be able to produce the quality event our attendees have grown to expect”.

In its three year history, Gen Con Australia has seen many prominent businesses such as Games Workshop, Madman Entertainment, Microsoft, and Wizards of the Coast involved with the show along with many well known and respected exhibitors.

Gen Con Australia was to showcase anime, board games, card games, computer games, console games, costume competitions, digital media, miniature war-gaming and role playing games along with appearances from well known Australian authors, games designers, and of course celebrities, to a broad audience of entertainment hungry families and gaming enthusiasts from all over Australia.

Attendees who have paid to attend the show will be fully reimbursed as soon as possible. Gen Con Australia organisers will be in contact with exhibitors shortly.

Gen Con Australia was to be a great weekend out for families and enthusiasts alike, and the event will be missed by those who were eager to attend. In a final statement, Ian Houlihan said, “We would like to thank attendees, event coordinators, sponsors, vendors and volunteers who have thrown their support behind the Gen Con Australia show since our first show in 2008. Without their involvement and loyalty, the show would not have been possible.”
