Games Workshop posted up a report for how things have been going for the previous six months. The long and the short of it, sales fell by 6.6% in that time.
With the changes GW’s making to at least its Fantasy line, it’ll be interesting to see how things change in the future.

From the announcement:

Sales fell by 6.6% to £56.5 million. The net exchange rate impact of the stronger pound was £2.1 million and, on a constant currency basis, sales were down by 1.7%. We now report our sales by channel; our own stores: ‘Retail’; our trading partners: ‘Trade’; and our online shop: ‘Mail Order’.

Well, nobody should be shocked, given the direction of the company….

Sit back, relax and watch it circle the drain.

If there really is karma or a god or any kind of higher purpose someone like Reaper will buy them when they finally have to sell.

OR.. Mongoose or Warlord or Mantic.. if we could get the old band back together.. that would make my day.

That said.. if GW would sell t-shirts and action figures or other collectibles it would immediately boost their sales. If they would cut all prices by 1/3 people would buy like they did back when prices were about 33% cheaper. If they would release direct only for general sale.. if they would allow independent retailers to sell their product without a ridiculous buy-in, if they would stop chasing legal squirrels, if they would let their fans create fan art, if they would bring the focus back to the hobby and not the wallet.. I mean we all know these things and more.

Do I think they’re going to belly-up? Nah.. they could easily liquidate some things or cut some corners and make up enough fudged cash to get by. I’m genuinely just hoping that their financial situation puts them in a position to do legitimate soul searching.

Hey maybe if Wizards and GW got to gether ….they could be half a company…..come on they really are both half ass organizations.

wow 6.6%…….maybe because they laid off a few folks…..and the extra dough hid the real figure

sorry just not impressed with these board run profit mongering entities………in the golden age of gaming. the sooner they evaporate…the better for new blood

Remember that that’s 6% down from last quarter.. which was also down.. how much further can it fall?

      • And, if you read the report, they’ve cut their operating expenses by three million pounds.

No wonder they’re going for a total re-imagining of WFB.

Everyone can fall to zero. Im not saying it will happen, but there is no such thing as ‘its impossible’ when it comes to going belly up. Ask Worldcom/Enron/Lehman Brothers.

It’s not impossible but they have enough capitol to prevent that in the short term. @Odinsgrandson yeah I didn’t actually read the report.. I probably will though now that you said that.. I can’t even imagine o_0

Hard to see them going down, after all they’ll always be able to sell off all that super valuable IP.

this is payback for all the years they just put up prices ’cause it’s that time of year again. wouldn’t give two hoots if they went belly up as they don’t care about their customers and haven’t done for years in my opinion.

if they keep hiring top brass from within they will keep going downhill, as it’s a bit like royal in-breeding, sometimes you have to inject outside blood to stop the madness.

stopped buying / playing GW years ago, it’s saved me a fortune

    alot of new blood……for sure

Not a good report. I hate that a company and games that I loved have been run into the ground. The games have become strangely stagnant for such a dynamic IP. It goes without saying that their business practices are ultimately what soured me on their games and prompted me to move on to other systems and companies. I’m even finally ready to let go of all of my GW stuff that I have horded in the hopes that they turn themselves around. Sad.
