Fray: The Restless Sea RPG Up On Kickstarter

Yo ho, yo ho, a sailor's life for me. Take to the oceans with Fray: The Restless Sea, a new RPG setting and system that's up on Kickstarter now. Two coastal city-states are on the precipice of war. Into this, you find your PCs. Will you favor one place over the other? Try and avoid war? Or relish in its arrival?

From the campaign:

Fray is an RPG for people who love character creation, tactical combat with low Health values, and who find joy in both the success and failures of their characters. Hundreds of character options allow for deep character customization and deadly combat makes every combat meaningful.

The mechanically tight system is based around a d12 dice pool system where you roll your Stats and add your Skills as bonus successes. This, along with the Advantage / Disadvantage and Aces mechanics, provide a unified system for in and out of combat that helps weave an engaging story whether the characters succeed or fail. But don't misunderstand this as fail forward - when characters truly fail, they are punished for that failure. It's what makes succeeding even sweeter.

The Restless Sea is a sandbox setting full of intrigue and adventure, built as a house of cards ready for PCs to topple over and pick up the pieces. Play is set against the backdrop of two major coastal city-states on the brink of war while their wilderness borders provide an ever present danger to survival. Factions and regions are detailed in broad strokes, with plenty of room for the GM and players to fill in the gaps. It's built to be a setting for you to tell your own stories in.

The Kickstarter is already over its funding goal with still 30 days left to go.
