Fragged Empire is a new tabletop sci-fi RPG that’s up on Kickstarter. They’ve made it over their funding goal and then some already, so it’s stretch goals for the next 33 days.

From the campaign:

Fragged Empire is a tabletop RPG setting & rules, set in a far future ‘post, post-apocalyptic’ setting. Your people have survived 100 years of brutal tribalism & savagery & are just now emerging back into space.

Set in the style of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, television series Firefly, Farscape & Blake’s 7 & computer-based role-playing games Mass Effect & Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

I was born at a very young age. I plan on living forever. So far, so good.

This looks kind of interesting. Seems it could be like the upcoming Destiny video game but without the pre-teens kicking my ass in PvP!

  • Alien, Firefly, Farscape, Blake’s 7, old school RPGs, Mass Effect, Star Wars: KOR… sheesh cram a few more incongruent geek references in there, why doncha?

Seems to me they’re trying to make a generic-ish, “modern” SF ruleset, as opposed to Imperial SF (Asimov/Traveller), transhuman or cyberpunk. Their inspirations all seem to be rooted in the humans-and-aliens (people with lumpy foreheads/different ears) zooming-around-the-cosmos-in-nifty-spaceships school of SF. Which, mind you, I can totally get behind…

Agreed. I was browsing various Sci-fi RPG games. Seems most are either a) strongly related to a given sub-genre of Sci-fi (e.g. GW universe, Star Wars, Traveller, Shadowrun) or b) Linked to a generic system (Savage worlds, Gurps etc).

Seems with Fragged you could jump into the sandbox universe they have created or adapt it to one of your own fairly easily.
