Mantic is now taking pre-orders for their Forge Fathers latest models.

From the announcement:

August is a big month for the Forge Fathers – this small but tough army had a couple of early releases at the tail end of last year, but the Space Dwarfs are getting reinforcements and are becoming a proper army for the full time. In our eyes, Forge Fathers launch in August, and are launching with a BANG!

  • £12-49… for a Dreadnought… that looks as cool as that…

    … consider me very impressed!

Just shows you that GW CAN do it, they just choose not to.

MAYBE. But first GW would have to shutter all their retail shops, fire all those store employees, move all their art to freelance, fire all in house sculptors and painters, fire all the rules writers except maybe one or two, fire their legal team and hire an outside firm on an as needed basis, and, the biggest one, get their company delisted as publically traded and go back to a privately owned company. Then, maybe, they could sell at the same cost as Mantic.

Not the consumers fault they overextended themselves. But their consumers pay for that, not GW.

But that wasn’t your original criticism. You said GW can sell models that cheap, they just choose not to. That’s patently false. If GW sold models at that price, even if they did see an uptick in quantity, they wouldn’t cover their overhead. I’m not a fan of GW’s prices, (in fact I’ve totally stopped buying GW in the past year,) but GW selling a dread at 12.50 just wouldn’t work.

Now your second point is valid, but EVERY company does that. Any company that sucks up losses without passing them on to the consumer would vanish quickly. Especially a publicly traded company where the board has to answer to share holders.
